TfL and finance

Looks like Bells looney ideas may have had a setback.Maybe now he and is rather pathetic cronies might start to get a grip and start being pragmatic and sorting what really is broke rather than meddling with things that cause worry and problems to local residents and businesses.So how about fixing pavements to a standard safe enough  for all to walk on?Sort the ruts and potholes and faded markings that make back streets and safe easy cycling routes so hazardous in bad light and rainy weather.And How about if the Leader can manage to ride on a cycleway in the correct direction.Yet again, showing the way - The wrong way.The budgets for road and footway maintenance is a care part of a councils true remit. So do it and make a difference rather than try to make pointless and divisive and costly ' initiatives'.

I think straight talking, transparency and honesty from The Dear Leader, in the form of an Open Letter to his constituents, explaining his difficulties and what he is trying to achieve, would help immensely.FAR too much going on behind closed doors with this lot.

I travelled through a Conservative borough earlier today and there are similar measures there. The driving force behind this appears not to be the specific agenda of local authorities but the way in which the government has dictated that the money they are giving out be spent.What they appear to have done is created a beauty contest in which councils can only get funding if they implement temporary measures in advance. The result is a lot of half-cocked schemes which don't really seem to benefit anybody and inconvenience many. There is a lack of an overall strategy and a lot of the scheme will have to be quickly removed once traffic really starts to pick up again and a lot of the money spent will have been wasted.That said managing London's transport over the next year means you are presented with a whole range of possible insuperable challenges so I don't envy the people making the decisions.
