PPE Appeal - Ealing Hospital

As someone for who Ealing Hospital has helped me personally (potentially life saving) and furthermore has been of immense help to family and friends; I read with a heavy heart the appeal on the news front just now.It resonates even more with my dear uncle currently there fighting for his life and being cared for by the wonderful NHS staff.Anyway.......I've ordered some PPE to be sent to the hospital but my post is to highlight that the email contact for Ewa / Mutual Aid is not correctly posted as it states "ealingmutualaid@gmail"... I assume the .com is missing????? That's what I've made the order out to anyway.

Such a mess and fragmented muddle this seems to be.  So much so that alternative arrangements have had to be made to try and keep our medical, nursing and care staff and key workers safe.

We now hear the private company put in charged of our PPE was in alledged chaos. PPE allegededly stored in a smoke damaged warehouse where their had been asbestos traces alledged.

Fetching them tonight I think.  3 days supply.  Why aren't they being sourced here - there are tailors who aren't working offering.  If they can find a fluid repellent fabric they can wash hot enough they might be able to reuse them with care.  One hospital has people making gowns and another making laundry bags.  Govt keeps suggesting lowering standards which is worrying.

My first post on this thread gives the info for the visors being made (heard more about them on the radio this morning) and here are patterns for other PPE garments together with instructions:Apparently it is the liquid repellent throwaway plastic of some sort of gowns used in ICU and worn over scrubs which is being desperately waited for at the moment.  The promised consignment from Turkey has been delayed...University of Arts London (Central St Martins) are making  scrubs for the NHS and they have published their simple sewing patterns for members of the public to use:https://www.arts.ac.uk/students/stories/csm-loves-nhscopied from chiswickw4.com

Just seen a programme about refuse collectors  and street cleaners in Paris. All given masks gloves and hand sanitizers. Also everyday they go to work a 35€ a day bonus. Then saw Priti Patel making her statement.

That is right. You can sense as you read everything between the lines its the economy. How many masks were ordered in the end? I dont think we ordered 2 billion like France. The police here dont seem to have them.

Every German has to have a health insurance plus if you need to attend your surgery for a doctor appointment you have to pay a fixed amount. Two years ago that was 10 euros. If you fail to attend you get billed all the same.Perhaps starting charging people for missing appointments may save our NHS quite a bit of money and the rest of us wouldn’t have to wait weeks to see our GP.

Yes at least Boris said that there is such a thing as Society. We should look to Germany and Scandinavia for ideas and not the states. You pay more tax but you get a more cohesive society and more a sense of nation.

Germany, despite being largely run historically by conservative governments, has a greater civic culture and more of a consensus towards utilising the power of the state to support its citizens than we do. That's what 40 years of promoting a culture of individualism and running down the welfare system will do.

We heard of hand sanitisers being ripped off the walls in hospitals elsewhere (don't know about Ealing).

Back in late January and early Feb had to take a relative to Ealing Hospital  for a few appointments. a regular thing every few months, First thing I noticed in Feb was absolute no hand sanitisers in the public areas and the Outpatients waiting areas.This was shortly after the first national guidance was issued to wash hands thoroughly .  Needless to say the very few washing facilities in the waiting areas were devoid of soap and means to dry hands.Second visit I enquired as to where the sanitiser dispensers had gone. The reply was that management had had them removed because people were coming in and drinking the stuff or it was simply being stolen.If that's the case then that's appalling, but removing them altogether and placing a higher risk to all, patients visitors and all staff who move around the hospital is hardly a wise decision either.Now the hospital has been caught on the hop because it has failed to procure protective materials even in basic normal time quantities and no doubt is at the back of the queue.When all this is over a really close look need to be taken about how well hospitals and GP practices are managed and supported.In the meantime let's hope Ealing Hospital and all clinical and care locations get suitably equipped and fast.
