Expert Advice Prompts Council Decision

I quote,"All CPZ and moving violation restrictions will continue.....as normal in order to reduce congestion and maintain road safety".You just couldn't make it up. The whole gaff looks like a Sunday morning at 6 o'clock. No school kids. Few pedestrians. Few cars. No shops.After 60 years of driving, walking, cycling and motorcycling on our roads it all looks very safe to me. Sorry extra safe. Much safer than normal. Was this just a typo or do they really think their wardens improve or maintain road safety in these times. But they do collect money. Perhaps that's what I missed!

Reading Berks has suspended CPZ enforcing wardens. Ealing's lot are already harshly judged. And are so spineless they can't debate it. Arrogant some might say.

Parking enforcement has long since ceased to be about managing parking space in the borough and has effectively become a tax. The only common sense approach is to suspend enforcement immediately. There are no issues at the moment on Ealing streets and the police have more power to sort them out if they arise. Having attendant walking around the borough occasionally leaving a plastic covered piece of paper on a car serves no useful purpose apart from redistributing income from residents to the council. It is a non-essential business that should be stopped.The potential for an attendant to become a super-spreader. The council are completely missing the point about why most people are driving at the moment. A large proportion are a lifeline for isolated people and these are not always in their own CPZ. It also is a callous decision from a financial point of view. Many borough residents have had their income fall to zero and a parking fine or even the cost of parking is now something they can ill afford. In some cases their cards will have been stopped because they have reached their limit so there is no way for them to pay anyway. In retrospect I think Ealing and other councils who continue to enforce pointless parking restrictions will be judged very harshly.

Simon,      I set my compasses to 3000 miles from Heathrow and using a globe stuck a circle. I came back with lots of interesting places a bit like "I'm a celebrity get me out of here". Apart from expanses of oceans there were destinations with no people and therefore no potential for celebrity...just reality and that might disappoint those with little talent and big ambition. They may not be able to cope. Further the UK gov may be none too keen to bend over backwards to repatriate these citizens

Arthur,I would like to see greater social distancing between Ealing Council and Ealing borough. About 3,000 miles would be sufficient. I note planes are still leaving Heathrow. Do you think we could crowdfund to pay for one way tickets for JB and co?

Simon,I missed that point. I too am joining (at a distance in excess of 2m) Cllr Mik Sabiers at 20:00 in our street tonight to clap this selfless department who are keeping us safe.

Arthur, these wardens are keeping our streets safe. They are frontline public servants. They are indispensable. They are almost single handedly saving Ealing from the deadly peril of careless parking, all for a pitiful wage. We should applaud them for their selfless bravery at this time of crisis.
