While being a local councillor isn't necessarily very lucrative, it is often an important stepping stone to getting an elected position which offers a decent salary so there is likely to be competition in an area like Ealing where there are a limited number of winnable seats.
There are only 8 Tory held seats 25% of which are held by sitting MPs and one who is a candidate to be the local assembly member, a relatively undemanding role which comes with an £80,000 salary. Whether Greg Stafford will stand down should he win is another question but even if he did that would still be only three seats becoming available in the next four years and there are far more ambitious Tory politicians locally than that.
