Is this the crassest remark ever from a planning committee member?

Philip, Whatever we have in place today to check on what is going on does not cut it. Once a decision is made that is it unless you have lots of money, a PR company, and a lot of irate residents, Small sins are ignored. Your idea is great, what we need is OfPLAN, the "Office of Planning" required to give you an answer with a month, say, with the ability to suspend developments and planning processes while decisions are reached

Cannes is closed to media unless they agree to copy approval.This is pure censorship and this sort of event clearly has something to hide.No British authority should attend without a local journalist on to to report without restriction on what Taxpayers are funding.

The real problem is an utter lack of engagement with residents on any planning issue. There is no consultation, just a bit of box ticking which is ignored. Consultation should be part of the formative process, informing the final decision and being fully considered.LBE approaches this by colluding with the planner, agreeing to their demands and then presenting a version of the proposal for a limited time for public comment, which it then ignores.Quite how they get away with flouting the law on such a persistent basis is beyond me. But then it is led by a man who occupies a social housing property to which he is not entitled.Oh, and Bell is off to Cannes next week to ‘sell’ the borough to overseas speculators. Perhaps he’d like to share the spoils with the taxpayers who fund his generous allowances.

It has one, the National Planning Policy Framework, a central government missive, which feeds into the London Plan, which feeds into the Local Plan, for those boroughs who are fortunate to have an up to date one.

Perhaps the planning regime needs the oversight of an independent body the equivalent of OFSTED (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) which inspects and regulates education and in the case of persistent mismanagement can take control away from the Local Authority.

It is crass because it is a flippant riposte to the genuine concerns of a resident / voter.As in, to massively paraphrase and precis the true intent behind the remark - we're doing this anyway so "tough sh*t!" and "f*** you!"

The way that people's lives have changed with all the studio flats with cooking facilities in high rises together with all the electrical and electronic equipment everyone seems to have now and leave switched on the incidence of fire must be far more likely.The Housing Minister recently reduced the height at which some of these new claddings are "safe" but there are many which still have not been dealt with and he has named and shamed five big companies so far.  There was an interesting programme yesterday in which the fact that there seems to be no system of following up and doing anything about Coroner's Reports into deaths was highlighted.  Many believe that if the Coroner's Report into the Lakanal fire had been acted on then the Grenfell fire might not have happened.

Not sure I see where there is any crassness. At least one member of the council is finally being open about what is being planned which is a change from the duplicity and obfuscation that has been generally employed so far.

I can beat that with Councillor Ray Wall's riposte to a resident demonstrating peacefully to keep the Goldsmith Arms Pub safe from yet another block of flats...."You don't have to live here, do you?"

When it comes to treating public concern with total contempt, the modern Labour policy makers knock the Tories into a cocked hat.You only have to look at what the local councils have been doing in the north east for a few years now. Places like Middlesbrough and Redcar have gone Tory because the local Labour party have not been addressing local concerns and have taken voters for granted because the working class there have always voted Labour. Not any more.Middlesbrough even has a Tory mayor.It's the south east, urban university brainwashed policy makers who head them up now.It used to be a party that represented working people,people who got their hands dirty for a living and who grafted. Now it treats those,mostly northern, people with contempt.People like Gillian Duffy.

No surprise to me here. The last election was an expose of the levels of crassness Labour have sunk to.Free WIFI as a vote tempter..really.They are more out of touch with most of us ex Labour voters than they could ever imagine.They need laxatives to rid them of a certain substance that they are knee deep in.
