No rape in South Ealing Cemetary - Story on Main Page

Hmmmm, the Police apparently not pursuing this now, after further investigation of the allegation, and, as usual, no mention of possible charges against the Complainant. As usual.Hmmmmmm.

One vital point missed in this thread is that it is possible that this woman did not want to press any charges. It may have been that she was:a) too scared to because of the ramifications to HER;b) she loves him and doesn't want HIM to suffer the consequences;d) they were caught having sex and she lied to protect herself from the fallout; e) it just didn't happen.As Susan Kelly rightly points out, cautions are given after investigations and are not thrown about like confetti. They will show up on a Criminal Disclosure Check for, I think, ten years until it becomes spent. It could prevent travel to certain countries, go against you in any further contact with the police, employment, insurance and much more besides.

People cannot see it. Park on a double yellow and you will get a fine ok. Until recently people got prison for no TV license.

Interesting POV. So no repercussions whatsoever for her actions, just a "Caution"?Do you think only giving a "Caution" may cause other women to think it is alright then to make similar false claims because there will be virtually no comeback? Not even a Fine?

A Caution is more than a 'warning', I think. It forms part of your criminal record. It's also likely that the woman is not very bright or has mental health problems since sane, sensible women don't go around making vague accusations of being attacked which fall apart under the smallest scrutiny.We may have to politely agree to differ.

There's a thing called "Deterrence", be it a large Fine or Porridge.Without it others "take note" and the same thing will keep happening, a "Warning" is meaningless.Over to you.  😊

There's also the fact that our courts are on their knees (cf Secret Barrister) so is dragging this woman through the court system the best use of resources? It would probably cost more than any fine imposed on her and our prisons can't cope with any more criminals as it is.

That's a fair point, Roscoe, but police resources seem to be allocated for many weirder things, like trying to bring the dead to justice for crimes committed decades ago, not to mention investigating people for suggesting that individuals with penises aren't women and accusing them of hate crimes.

I think Susan's and my POVs are predictable, given both our histories of past postings.  😂I guess a reasonable supplementary question might be would you still feel the same if you or yours were being violently robbed in your own home at the time, and no Police resources were available to respond, because so many were deployed to the cemetary?This question is valid regardless of whether or not an individual was named, and again, I am just asking, let's keep it calm.

I think that a caution is appropriate is she lied about the incident. If she accused an individual, I consider that more serious.

It's a very emotive subject, so calmness and reasoned thinking will hopefully prevail whilst we opine on the subject.And my opinion is that IF a mere "Caution" is given, then that is far from being fair and reasonable.

I doubt anything more will reach the public domain.
I only hope that the young woman in question is getting the help that she needs. Something, we will probably never know,  made her make an allegation of rape and the cause of this should lead others to offer her assistance.
