Trees in W13

Given the increasing concern about global warming, how can the London Borough of Ealing justify the recent removal of 23 healthy trees in Dean Gardens, W13? Apparently this has been done as part of an initiative by West Ealing Liveable Neighbours, supported by TFL, to improve visibility. At a time when lots of other boroughs are planting more trees it seems extraordinary that LBE is chopping them down against the advice of those promoting carbon offsetting.

The deforestation of Dean Gardens is unforgivable. Some of the trees felled in their prime were those planted by the last band of ruffians without consultation about 8 years ago. This problem exposes everything that is wrong with this council. No one replies. We all know deep down its all talk. You are more or less obliged to declare a climate emergency. In reality, well you need look no further than the rise in the sales of SUV's. And remember we have a terminus railway station that is unable to take electric trains only diesel.

In April 2019 Ealing council declared a climate emergency. Twas not long ago but ee seem to ave forgot. Senile decay em say.

I witnessed the destruction of two trees today. That makes about 30 to 50 tonnes of stored carbon just chopped and thrown away. If you look up the council website there is plenty of words written there about the benefits of trees in our polluted urban environment.It is a great pity neither the council nor the portfolio holder has read or understood any of this.

No this is serious. Heads should fall not just trees. The people didn't agree to this. Other trees seem to be lost where they might upset planner's ambitions and latin names come out of a brown paper bag to explain the cull. The problem is that LBE is the enforcing authority for tree listing and legislation so it may do what it likes. And I am sorry to say the portfolio holder isn't big enough to hold this very large portfolio together.

Improve visibilty?  I get that.  But maybe a Portaloo might have been the greener solution to people "hiding" behind trees.

It seems extraordinary that they could proceed with a plan to remove 23 trees without anyone making a major fuss about it. Don't they have to give notice of what they are intending to do?
