Perceval House Public Exhibition

Hi Folks, Did anybody manage to attend this exhibition in the Ealing Broadway Centre and if so any views/comments on this proposal which includes 236 affordable homes and our new library etc

Gallows humour perhaps. You are right that they are uninterested in supplying full and complete information on this development to the public and what they have released is corporate PR BS which tells us very little.It is also correct to say that their claims of being more ecological than any other borough don't stand up to too much scrutiny. However, I'd repeat the point that homes need to be built and while building no homes is better for the environment doing so would have a whole range of negative outcomes that outweigh any potential benefits.There will be an environmental impact assessment and reports on other matters of concern you raise carried out as part of the planning process and I believe that this must be done by a notionally independent consultant although I'm not aware of a development ever being blocked due to a negative report.

There does not seem to be much exploration of environmental impact, quality-of-life, infrastructure development, ecology, sustainability, and so on.How can we be the "most ecological borough in London" according to the Council if NONE of these aspects are considered or addressed anywhere?

Yes, it is the decision of the council as to how high they build and where.  You can get density with low build, but it is financially advantageous to build high. Off shore investors, money launderers and commercial Airbnb providers, as with most new build in the borough will be the main purchasers.

Obviously. But it has been pointed out that the West Ealing and South Acton developments are also going to be 25 storeys high which may not be coincidental. Ealing Council seems to have made the decision that this is the height that developers (including themselves) will be allowed to build up to in Ealing.

Libby,Agreed. Somehow I do not think that many people with a mean household income of £36,421 (average London 2018) will be able to buy one of these affordable properties with a three-times-income mortgage, let alone those people with a below average London income. I wonder how much the smallest of these so-called "affordable" homes costs, and how much are the biggest?Does anyone have any information here?Oh, and one should not forget the annual service charges and leasehold charges

Maybe ole "Several Private Houses Whilst Living In Social Housing, Two Jobs, Secret Council Loan, 'It's The Tory Cuts!'" will buy several of them to rent out?Whilst staying put in his Subsidised Social Housing of course!The Local Labour Party must be SO proud of him.

Rosco, It is much more than hypocrisy, it is stupidity and it is ignorance, and it is arrogamce. Perhaps Ealing Council needs some sensitisation courses in ecology, sustainability, and quality-of-life? (and courses on global warming and climate change as well)?

I am intrigured as to how Ealing Council can claim to be the most ecological borough in London, or indeed to be ecological at all, if it is proposing to build huge tower blocls on the site of the present Perceval House council building?Another step on the path to catastropic climate change IMO
