Heathrow – harassing residents again?

I see Heathrow is up to its tricks again. I’ve just received another one of those noxious “Land Referencing” letters, complete with a map of my street with my house coloured in. I’m pretty confident that this letter belongs in the bin. All the same, it’s a bit alarming. Is Heathrow trying to intimidate people? It certainly looks like it.

On this forum I find you can always get an answer. I even got an answer on a related forum about 5G from a technical point of view, a really comprehensive answer I may add. I had never heard of land referencing so thanks from me.

Lee,Thank you for explaining what Land Referencing is. So much happens these days and in the absence of any comprehensive media for West London (or even London) or indeed any useful information from anybody it is hard to know what it means

The letters are delivered by Royal Mail.

Quite simply land referencing is a way of obtaining a stakeholders interest. As you own a property in the catchment area you are contactedThis would mean if/when the runway goes ahead you may be contacted about some sort of compensation (be it financial or mitigation against additional noise as an example)The land referencing is a legal requirement set out by the government, it's one of the many reasons that costs are so increased on infrastructure projects.Your details have been bought from the Land Registry by WSP (for a minimal cost) ANYONE can do this, £3 will get you the deeds. WSP are the land referencing agency who have won that particular part of the contract.Every time land or property is bought and exchanged your details are recorded.You will more than likely receive numerous copies of the same letters due to the way in which it's stipulated that  all necessary avenues have been taken to confirm the identity of the stakeholders.But please don't see this as harassment, you're quite within your rights to throw it in the bin with the recycling.

I quite liked the "advice" that the Planning Inspectorate gave to John Hunt when he enquired about land referencing.https://infrastructure.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/projects/london/expansion-of-heathrow-airport-third-runway/?ipcsection=advice&ipcadvice=fad63b8f25Heathrow have a duty to try to establish the details of the people affected by their plans and need to show that they have made efforts. I guess the latest campaign is trying to get more people to reply.As the advice says "questionnaire recipients are not mandated to volunteer information about their interest(s) in land to a DCO applicant, if they do not wish to do so.The Heathrow Community Engagement Board got Heathrow to answer questions on the land referencing process at an earlier stage in the process and posted the answers in a blog at https://www.hceb.org.uk/blog/2018/11/14/read-heathrow-respond-to-the-hcebs-questions-on-the-land-referencing-letters

I agree, throw them away and ignore any visits from canvassers trying to collect further information. No doubt in decades to come when the polar ice has melted and sea-levels have risen due to global warming contributed to by air travel we will still be getting letters about the next Heathrow expansion which every political party in opposition will oppose until the hypocrites are in power when they will get onto the Heathrow gravy train

Throw it away, it’s hardly harassment. My guess is you and others on here who see a letter as harassment would be the same people who would be up in arms had the airport simply been expanded and you hadn’t been consulted. “How dare they do this without asking for input? How dare they not tell us what they were doing! It’s a disgrace”!You can’t have it both ways even if you are not in favour of the expansion.

Regardless of the third runway, (oh, and fourth in due course) just wait until the new flight envelopes start - straight overhead of Acton. 😨At 1,000 feet or so I vaguely recall, with 50 planes or somesuch an hour. There's a thread on here about it.House values will drop - and it's only a matter of time before a plane does too, straight on to densely populated West London.Heathrow is, and always has been, in The Wrong Place, and it was NEVER meant to grow as large as it has become.Lies & deceit along with broken promises have however ensured that it grows like the hideous monster it is.

Rightly or wrongly, I felt somewhat intimidated when I received my copy today.Addresed to me as First-name, Middle-name, Surname at my address. Where do they get that data from?I think the original mailing last year said they would re-try, and they will furthermore send a person to knock on your door if no response is received.Nobody seems to be able to say what "Land Referencing" is really about.Why do they need my signature, email address and phone number (in addition to my name and address, which they already have)?

I received four copies of the letter today, reflecting the fact that I set up a 'tenants in common' for my children on the family home.
I am, as the crow flies, seven miles from Heathrow.
I have no intention of confirming anything to assist their process given that they are clear that the data may be processed 'outside the UK' and 'will be retained for 10 years'.
