11th January - Consultation on tackling rat-run traffic in West Ealing

This Saturday - 11th January from 1-5pm - there will be a Live West Ealing Low Traffic Neighbourhood ‘Collaborative-Design’ workshop with local residents and stakeholders (i.e. everyone who walks, cycles and drives will have an interest in this!) for the neighbourhood south of The Broadway, in West Ealing. It will take place at the Welshore Community Hub – so drop by if you can make it. It will give everyone the chance for people to participate in reimagining how the neighbourhood could function, with a particular focus on developing design solutions to tackle the high levels of through-traffic the residential area currently experiences. I am sure everyone who goes will find it interesting, especially those that want to have their say in the consultation.  The Welshore Community Hub is at 99 Broadway, West Ealing W13 9BP. From The Holiday Inn, walk towards Hanwell and it is on the left-hand side of the road between The Cake Box and Bensons for Beds.

Strangely the council have increased rat running through residential areas near the one-way section of Manor Road.This is a new idea. The last one 12 months ago had no such closure. The previous scheme was accompanied by a consultation. This was not. Champions of consistency and quality design.

While I cannot make the meeting I really hope that the matter of enforcement of the 20mph limit is raised.All of Boston Road and large parts of Uxbridge Road are in the 20mph zone but it simply is not enforced.I set my speed limiter to 20mph (means that the car is actually doing a max of 19mph) and am getting thoroughly peed-off at being flashed and hooted for going 'too slow'.As to measurement of traffic flows there has been a proliferation of traffic counters (the two rubber 'cables' across the road) in the area of late. Hopefully these are accurately measuring flow.

If you go along to the meeting tomorrow, you will find out the answers. However, I will do my best to answer your questions. I BELIEVE through traffic (rat running) is EXTREMELY high. As an example, one can get from Boston Manor Station to Waitrose passing through only one set of traffic lights. The speed of traffic is terryifying and all too often I witness stand offs when drivers refuse to give way to an oncoming car.I don't know when it was measured or by whom. Let's assume it to be the council who measured it. The council will know how many residents households in the CPZ hold permits. They will then have a model to count traffic and weight this on permit holders, but this is only my theory. If you can't get to the exhibition but somebody else on this forum can, then maybe they could give you the answers to your questions more accurately.

Re: 'to tackle the high levels of through-traffic the residential area currently experiences.'Mr Owen,exactly how high IS the level of through traffic? Who measured it? When? And how did those do the 'measuring' know whether a particular passing car was through traffic or a local resident?I appreciate you may not know these answers yourself, but do you know where the data which led to these conclusions is held, and is it publicly accessible? I'd be keen to find out - can you help, or point me in the right direction please?
