Home insurance

I am currently looking to change our building/contents insurance.  Does anyone have any recommendations. I've looked at Admiral which seems much cheaper than most. Has anyone dealt with them?  Many thanks.

N V mentioned LV. I have my car insurance with them and have made a number of claims over the last 30 years (mostly not my fault!) and they have always been very good. I might speak to them when Admiral (inevitably) try to hike my premium for renewal.

Thanks everyone for the info. We were previously insured through our bank but when we  were burgled and had to make a claim they were unhelpful although the claim was eventually settled.

Good point, Rosco, especially in London where about 80% of the market value lies in the land.

And always insure your home for its Rebuild Cost, NOT its Market Value.A common mistake which for some reason most Insurance Companies are loathe to point out.I wonder why?  😂

Do check with your bank as many have discounted home insurance deals for their customers.I bank with Nationwide and they offered 30% off on an LV 'gold' policy which covered everything new for old plus all of the 'optional' extras and this was over £100 less than the comparison sotes for identical cover with other insurers.

I'm with Admiral at the moment, having had the best quote from them when their predecessor tried to hike my premium by about 50%.The problem is that you don't know if an insurance company is any good until you have to make a claim which, thankfully, I haven't.
