Where in Ealing Can You Buy Acorn Squash?

I am attempting a Jamie Oliver Christmas recipe in which this is one of the ingredients.

That's certainly good value but butternut squash doesn't really work for this. The squash is packed with a mix of nuts and herbs and then roasted. Butternut squash is too tall for the recipe.

Be kind to yourself this Christmas, go for the easy option - Hanwell Broadway Lidl, butternut squash: 97p per kilo.

I was planning to do the same recipe for Christmas as we are have a couple of veggies as guests. The kind of squash that we wanted to do was the yellowish one with a stalk sticking out of the top which looks a bit like a toadstool. Anyone know what they are called? Acorn squash seems to present the problem that they don't often come with a flat base so are difficult to present attractively when serving.

Sainsbury's in West Ealing had in store a box of 'mixed squash' with various shapes and sizes none of which looked like butternut squash.

As I said it's also called pepper squash which, in turn is the same family as butternut squash.If you have never cooked acorn squash before prepare to be disappointed at how fibrous and stringy it is, which is why most 'proper' chefs use butternut or onion squash.Acorn squash also has 40% more calories than butternut.

A quick Wikipedia search yields 'Acorn squash is also called pepper squash, or Des Moines squash.'  With regards finding some to buy . . .  perhaps a phone call to Waitrose might yield something (ok, it's a long shot. An email to their HQ might be more sensible).  Also, there are many 'exotic fruit and veg' shops in West Ealing, might be worth visiting them?  And/or Southall.

Use pepper squash or butternut squash.Doubtless serial business failure JO will launch a pre-packed expensive version.
