Prospective Parliament Candidates May be selected by their parties and head office but they are elected by the constituency they represent. Yes they have different roles from local councillors but ultimately if the local councillor and council cannot or will not take any notice and action with regards to caseworker then the local MP is perhaps the last hope one has to have a particular issue resolved. MPs do have  influence within the local council to get residents issues resolved.This is why MPs hold surgeries in their constituency. Their role is also to lobby Parliament to have important issues affecting their residents resolved or, the other way round, lobby to stop something that will negatively affect their residents. They are expected not just to be seen but also to help out whenever help is sought. Refusing to acknowledge and respond to their residents’ correspondence does not inspire much confidence in them.

I wish people would understand the different roles of MPs and Local Authorities.  MPs have very little if any say in local issues.  An MP is selected jointly by their local party and the the "Head Office". If an MP gets involved in local issues, especially where the issue is contrary to the Local Authority view they stand a good chance of being deselected. MPs are there to question and support or not bills brought up in Parliament.  Where a constituent has a case where their rights under Parliament are not being supported locally or centrally then the MP could get involved at a local level. The Windrush fiasco is a good example.The Change.org consultation has been found to have been very selective in their choice of consultees and is being questioned by their professional body as it has been found to have broken a number of rules.

Local issues, are not Rupa Huqs patch, these are local issues and should be sorted at local level by the police and Ward Councillors, many of whom do very little.  All Rupa Huq and other MPs can do is to continuously and consistently bring up in Parliament the lack of police and lack of money for youth services due to the local authority cuts.

She did nothing to help myself and neighbours when we drew a local HMO landlord to her attention.  He had had tenants living in filth and fire hazard for years. She did not even respond to our emails.  She did not care. Rupa Huq is notorious for virtue-signalling.  She turns up at events to gain publicity and associates herself with any cause she thinks will make her popular.  She is hypocritical.  A moslem who promotes beer – just to assure us she is a nice type of moslem.  An animal lover when there is political point to be made about fox-hunting but promoting the barbaric practice of halal slaughter – and defaming people who, following their own moral principles, disapprove of it.  Even calling them racists even though she does not even know who they are.  Opposed to racism  - selectively.  In the “House” for the debate on Islamophobia, not for the debate an anti-semitism.  She even defended the anti-semitic hate posts of  Naz Shah.  When called to account in correspondence, she ignores it.  I have been in the borough for over 40 years.  She is by far the worst MP I have had.

Well she has done absolutely nothing to solve the drug running problem and robberies in the Churchfiekd Road Area of W3 - turning up at meetings she may but she doesn’t get things done.

How can he be the 8th best MP when he is happy to support a third runway at Heathrow allowing more flights  over his constituency creating more aircraft noise,night flights and pollution? I'd hate to be the worst 8th!

Yes, I should expect that we, in turn, should expect them to drive down to the lowest level.It's 538 out of 650, do you honestly believe that is acceptable?If they were all 'super brilliant' I thonk we might notice, don't you?

Why is 538th necessarily poor?  If all MPs were super brilliant at their jobs there would still be one at 538 and of course one last.

Surprised me as well but, assuming that the same 'weightings' were applied equitably then the result for Ms.Huq is quite poor.

I have to say this analysis surprises me. They explain what factors they've used to work this out, but to start with, Ms Huq has spoken in the House of Commons 95 times in the past year and Mr Sharma 59. Ms Huq is very active in the constituency, witness the many photo ops we see of her with local groups, the frequency of which some find irritating!  She frequently attends local party meetings, while Mr Sharma's local members were poised to deselect him for not having turned up to a constituency meeting for nearly a year and a half!  This survey has clearly given greater weight to other factors.
