The Tory Candidate for Ealing Central and Acton

Has to be said that his reasoning that we need to 'get Brexit done' so we can get on with dealing much more serious issues such as crime, homelessness and pollution suggests he doesn't really understand what Brexit is. The massive whole in the nation's finances that a no deal Brexit would entail lead to a significant rise in all three as the state was less able to develop policies to counteract them.If he really wants to get Brexit done he should be telling his leader to get back to Brussels and finish off the negotiations.

Looks like the party will be fighting the next election on a platform of a no deal Brexit so we will find out either way what Mr Gallant's current opinion is.

gallant does not support boris ideas? if so he will get no support from conservative headquarters. hanger hill ward tory councillers are not tories. they are a small group in ealing different to ealing tories. they never represent local issues. they always support business business business own pockets. ealing has few tories, hanger hill tories are not real tories.

Had a look at his history on Twitter. Doesn't have much to say on Brexit but he has been critical of Johnson's 'do or die' approach. Definitely not a no deal fruitcake. If he ups the anti-EU rhetoric to win over Brexit Party votes he will be changing his tune.

Not sure "reductio ad absurdum" applies here as the initial argument was absurd.Back on topic this could be an interesting seat. If Rupa Huq's pro-Remain vote is split by a return of a Liberal Democrat challenge then the Tories could sneak in without having to increase their vote by that much. If Mr Gallant was prepared to go full on Brexit hardliner he might be the beneficiary of a pact with Farage's organisation. Doesn't sound like his heart is in it though.

Why is she supporting the breweing industry then, and where does the lifetime award for services to beer come in?The brewing industry has killed helped kill off traidional pubs with its relentless push towards gastropubs ("ghastlypubs") providing a second rate atmosphere compared with restaurants, its desire to en-sofa traditional pubs where possible, and setting high prices for beer, why support it? There is also the contradiction between Dr Rupa Huq MP's support for the brewing industry and her support for the National Health Service, less alcohol consumption would mean less strain on the National Health Service (which would better suit her "Save the NHS" campaign in Ealing so I cannot see why a self-declared teetotaller spends her time in real ale bars, and supports the brewing industry and accepts awards for a Lifetime Service to Beer?

Andy,I will clarify as to my analogy, it is tongue-in-cheek as in the opera, classical music, and touring orchestra world the coach-loads of musicians are affectionately known as "muzos" and are known for their copious consumption of red wine while on tour, hence Red Wine Julian Gallant - a touring musician, while Dr Rupa Huq M.P. is known to enjoy a pint or two of real ale in the Trade Union Club in Acton and earned a Life Time Award for Services to Beer from CAMRA and the brewing industry on behalf of whom she speaks and lobbies in the Houses of Parliament, hence Beer Dr Rupa Huq, meanwhile not mixing vine and grain is a standard maxim for a night out pub-crawling

But that's exactly the point. Mr Gallant must know the damage that would be done to the operation of orchestras and the livelihood of musicians even if the outcome is the relatively mild option of some sort of variation on the Withdrawal Agreement. Yet he is parroting the 'Get Brexit Done' line which has been mandated by Conservative Central Office and candidates are being asked to repeat in the same way that 'Strong and Stable' was the mantra last time. He, and every other new candidate being selected for the forthcoming election is precisely the kind of 'manifesto robot' you decry.

Not sure I get the analogy but I can't see the contest between the two being particularly interesting. The Tories don't seem to be seriously contesting the seat and it will probably be the Lib Dems who will provide the stiffest competition. Anyone who really believes that we just have to 'get Brexit done' will vote Brexit Party.

As a professional musician he must realise the damage that Brexit will do to the ability of orchestras to recruit, perform overseas or visit this country to perform. Musicians are poorly paid so the ending of free movement will mean that they won't be eligible for any points based exemption and will be under the salary limits that the Home Office considers viable to let them work here. It will also mean that young British musicians will be deprived of the opportunity to tour which he has taken full advantage of in his career.
