Is EalingToday becoming the Daily Mail?

Headline story "Ealing's Litter Officers 'Tried To Fine Toddler Feeding Ducks'"Are you serious?! All you have to do is READ the story and it's clear it's rubbish.Silly sensationalist headline.Shame on you ET, you can do better than this.

For gawd's sake, don't feed the troll.That aside, this morning I have witnessed a miracle. My road has seen street sweepers - including kerbside weed removal. So that means my road's now been swept twice this year!  TWICE!!!  I need a lie down to get over the shock. Oh, hang on a minute, there's a councillor living a few doors down from me. The next thing you'll be telling me is that the Grinning Bell has designs on Steve Pound's old job LOL. Oh, hang on a minute  . . .

Trolling early today Mr. James.An elderly lady wishes to dispose of a cup of coffee, she pours it down the drain and then, from the report disposes of the cup in a bin - nothing wrong with that.Shame that Kingdom aren't enforcing cycling infringements (posted that just to upset you!)

Why shouldn't you pour coffee down a drain?You can make a semantic quibble about the headline - Kingdom didn't actually try to fine a two year old but they do appear to have acted quite heavy handedly with this family.The broader problem here is the contracting out of law enforcement to private agencies who then operate on a target based system. If you work as an enforcement officer for Kingdom you are not highly paid and you have to issued a certain amount of PCNs by the end of your day. Inevitably this means that the officers focus on softer targets, people who are going to meekly hand over their details and don't present any risk of physical conflict. The problem is that generally law-abiding people aren't the main cause of litter on our streets and  those that are aren't likely to be fined under this system. The key question is - has this enforcement regime made our streets any cleaner? It doesn't appear that it has but it has resulted in a upsetting experience for a number of people who had no intention of littering.

How many people don't fight and just accept these soft target fines?  It does at least warn people to be more careful but what is happening about catching and prosecuting those that flytip and those that think it is OK to use recycling bins for household waste?

Unlike the Daily Mail it does at least contain a semblance of truth in that an elderly lady was issued an FPN (subsequently rescinded) for pouring her coffee down the drain.
