Harry and Meghan's Two Child Policy

Would be interesting to hear people's views on this. I do worry that the thinking behind their pronouncement that they will only have two children, while well-meaning, is a bit dangerous. Rising population is going to be an issue that we deal with but the main reason it is happening is that we are living longer not because of rising birth rates. If we seek to control population by reducing the amount of children being born we will end up with an aging global population and economic stagnation. If you believe as I do that the only way to save the planet is by human ingenuity the technology that will be needed will be dependent on global prosperity for it funding.

The UK population is steadily growing but no more than that. It's a mix of people living longer, a small number of more births than deaths and immigration. But hardly unsustainable. Search out Hans Rosling's Tedtalks on Youtube and the book by more Roslings.  Hans Rosling (the statistician) and his wife lived in Africa when they were young where they worked as doctor and nurse.Also look for info on Melinda Gates wife of Bill who is a Catholic and how she explains her stance as pro family planning.  Not having a child every year gives women much more time to be educated and work and look after their families better.

The problem is insoluble. The earth can't support any more people but if couples stick to two children, then, as you say, we get an ageing population.We are f***ed.
