E10 consultation delay is ‘bonkers’18 July 2019 by Luke WalshUK bioethanol industry is in a “state of collapse” owing to delay in publishing the consultation, according to APPG for British Bioethanolhttps://www.endswasteandbioenergy.com/article/1591443/e10-consultation-delay-bonkersThe All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for British Bioethanol has demanded the government publish its report into the potential introduction of E10 saying delays are ruining the sector. In a report, issued yesterday, the APPG also called upon the secretary of state for transport, Chris Grayling, to host an "emergency summit" on the future of the UK’s bioethanol sector. The APPG said in March it was expected the government would shortly announce the results of the consultation it launched last year. Two of the UK’s largest bioethanol producers, Vivergo and Ensus, mothballed production last year with the former citing delays to the introduction of E10 as the main reason.APPG chair and MP for Scunthorpe, Nic Dakin, told ENDS: "It is bonkers the [government] has yet to publish its consultation on the Introduction of E10. The British bioethanol industry is in a state of collapse, and ministers can not allow the fog of Brexit to distract them any longer from saving a £1bn industry that will not only make our cars cleaner and greener, but provide thousands of green jobs. "It is for this reason that the APPG calls for an emergency summit on the future of the industry, before or during the summer recess, in order to quickly agree the most efficient, transparent and cost effective way E10 could be introduced in the UK," he said. The consultation asked fuel suppliers’ views on increasing the percentage of bioethanol in petrol beyond the current 5% (E5) up to a limit of 10%.Filling up with E10 fuel reduces petrol vehicle’s greenhouse gas emissions by around 2%, according to the consultation, which adds "there could be around" one million mainly older cars in the UK that are "unsuitable" for E10, according to the APPG.
