Panorama:  Care in Crisis

Austerity cuts and the mess that has been made of the care service.Lack of staff as they are so under strain and nobody applies for the jobs.  Increasing numbers needing to use the service.  Closure of supportive services eg Day Care Centres and Respite Care and Libraries so as to be able to support the care service.How much less per head is spent on care in England than in Scotland and Wales:https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-48438132https://theconversation.com/why-life-expectancy-in-britain-has-fallen-so-much-that-a-million-years-of-life-could-disappear-by-2058-podcast-91356

There is this weird funding formula called the Barnett formula.  I remember hearing the person who came up with this and who it was named after talking about it and saying that he had only intended it to be a temporary system of deciding how much funding the different governments got from the Treasury.

My other concern is the inequity of a UK where social care is free in one country and means tested in another.
