Who Will Speak For The Adulterers?
It has been quite noticeable that the protests outside the Sultan of Brunei's place in Osterley and the Dorchester Hotel have made it seem that the only problem with his new laws is that it will involve the stoning of homosexuals. While there is no dispute that the medieval brutality of this is abhorrent it does seem to be that the new laws cover adultery which I would imagine like here, is by far the 'crime' most likely to be subject to this sanction. You are going to have to accept my word that adultery is not something I have ever engaged in but many of the people who I most love and respect in this world have done. Given knowledge of their personal situations I cannot accept they have done anything let alone that they have committed a crime. However, in the protests against Brunei's laws there almost seems to be an assumption that it is less bad to stone adulterers than people from the LGBT community because the former have done something wrong. Shouldn't the protests be against stoning per se rather than the use of this barbaric group on just one of its intended targets?
