Flags

I see the only flag flying over the town hall today is the EU duster. Roll on Brexit and the return of the Union Flag.

There is no appetite for leaving the eu in Ireland.Your latter suggestion means the union flag would no longer exist which is my original point.

I did not vote for a return to a hard border. I would be happy with either of two alternative solutions but the Irish are not. Let the North join with the Republic in the Eu - or let the Republic Irexit. Simples but unpopular.

Hi Simon. I was responding to Graham who doesn't appear to think he voted to return a hard border to the Island of Ireland.And yes, brexit is taking up a massive proportion of our time when we should all be working on things that actually matter!

No, I didn’t misunderstand you. I’m not for Brexit, a massive error of judgement magnified by political incompetence for the last two and s half years.But what’s happening nationally is taking focus away from local issues and democracy is suffering as a result.

No. The flag does not incorporate that of Northern Ireland but of Ireland. Brexit is not a vote to put a border in Ireland. It has been there ever since partition.

No, you missed my point. You voted to make the Union Flag a thing of the past.Perhaps you don't realise it's a flag of three parts, the English St George's Cross, the saltire of Scotland and the saltire of Northern Ireland.You voted to "take back control of our borders", i.e. put a border on the Island of Ireland, which could very well result in reunification, and if Scotland choose to leave the union (it voted remain) we're left with just the St George's cross.Did you get that?

A white flag would have been more appropriate, symbolising the surrender of democracy in Ealing (LIP, libraries, planning...)

The reason it's not flying is quite simple.As a tribute of remembrance and an respect of an event or act a flag usually flies at half mast. As it's Brexit though they thought it was better if it was flown a little lower to honour the mass unemployment that it will generate,it's flying in the basement.

Brexit voters voted to make the union flag a thing of the past.If the union breaks up because of brexit or northern Ireland leaves then there won't be a union flag to fly.
