This is a ruling by the home secretary when Asda appealed a council refusal for planning permission to build a store in a town centre in Yorkshire. It corrects your assumption that the council couldn't do a thing regarding five large supermarkets within three minutes walk of each other.Todmorden, Yorkshire, November 2012The Planning Inspectorate has found against ASDA’s Appeal to build a fourth supermarket in the small Pennine town of Todmorden (Population 13,500). This was based on the finding that, “the proposal would have a significant adverse impact on the vitality and viability of Todmorden Town Centre, its role as a market town and committed and planned public and private investment within the centre” . Who controls the necessary planning involved to convert buildings? Who controls the change of use? Who controls just about everything that could stop five supermarkets building big stores all the same within three minutes of each other?Who could have, and should have got involved?

Surely supermarkets are not a bad thing providing they do not cause too much litter/noise disturbance with their deliveries etc.I can imagine Greenford is not the cleanest or quietest part of the borough anyway.

It wasn't too many years ago when Greenford Broadway supplied everything, and i mean everything anyone needed.

I have patronised all the Greenford supermarkets and find them most advantageous, especially the Indian one where the vegetable section is learning experience in itself.   What do you want to see more of? Greenford Broadway lacks a traditional pub now but overflows with fast food and other eateries. ? Vape shops are there but no tobacconist. I would be happy with far fewer betting shops. I wonder how long the police station will be derelict.
