Ealing Broadway station

According to this article (https://www.theconstructionindex.co.uk/news/view/graham-and-hochtief-to-improve-six-london-rail-stations) the building contractors Hochtief and Graham have been awarded contracts by Network Rail to remodel the ticket halls and stations at Ealing Broadway and another 5 West London stations on the Crossrail Route.Completion by the end of 2020 but no indication whether the original proposed scope of works has been cut back.

They may have left a way of getting through to the betting shop, the original entrance to the station and TFL tenancies used to allow for such.

That is true, the bridge is also an emergency exit.I guess you're still stuck if you can't get off the tube platforms because of a fire or whatever in the main building, but Ealing Broadway is hardly alone in having that problem!

I recall the new footbridge is not just to ease transfers between the lines but also an alternative means of escape (untimately discharging on to The Mall) from the station in case of a fire/incident on the main bridge/ticket hall.So what happens if you are stranded on the District/Circle Lines' platforms?

That's a nice idea, but not as easy as it sounds.Just extending the existing bridge across won't work as platforms 8 and 9 don't extend far enough east.Platforms 5 and 6 are very narrow at that point too.The bridge would just about line up with the very end of platform 7.

Movement between platforms?  If the new staircase at the East end of the platforms, that currently just serves the overground trains, was extended to include the District and Central Lines platforms this would significantly reduce congestion on the main staircase at the West end.Is this in the plans?

As I'm only likely to use it as an interchange I'm quite comfortable if the expense of making it a landmark building is cut back on as long as their is a significant improvement in the way you move between platforms.

As long as they build it and it opens at some point - I seem to remember a lot of fuss about the design and the usual petitions re Edwardian facades and so forth.

Little activity at North Acton Square (not crossrail) but lots going on at Acton Mainline Station (crossrail).  A new bridge has gone in which I assume will have both stairs and lifts down to the platforms.

As Crossrail is over budget, it's likely that cuts are being made in works not yet contracted, so look forward to a pared back plan for Ealing Broadway to follow shortly.

If Hochtief are managing the station works all hope is lost.  They are the company that has been doing the bridge works on the A406 near the A4 roundabout - now running years behind schedule and often to be seen with only a handful of men on site.

This is only conjecture, an unqualified idea for the delay.Before brexit we were the european financial district. We had the City of London and the fast expanding Docklands. We were attracting the global headquarters of some very big companies.To maintain our roll as the financial sector of the E.U. we needed to provide a more beneficial route between Docklands in the east of London, and our premier airport in the west of London. Crossrail was the solution. It's undeniable that it was needed, As there was a strong financial reason for Crossrail we ploughed billions into into it.When we voted brexit we severed all hope of maintaining our roll as the financial sector of Europe. Suddenly we have a white elephant.

Certainly seems to have gone quiet after a flurry of activity over Christmas & New Year (double time anybody?)Here's guessing it all gets going again after April in the new Financial Year?

I think there should be a blue plaque at each station commemorating the best screw up of the century.
