Is South Ealing finished as anti-social Assyrian Centre puts in late night pub/club license bid?

The Assyrian Centre have applied for a licence for Film Live and Recorded music Sale of alcohol Performance of Dance Late night refreshment

We feel this will have a very negative impact on local residents quality of life if this is granted. You may wish to object on some or all of these grounds :-1. It will increase late night noise2. May increase crime and disorder3. Impact public safety4. Increase public nuisance5. Booze or no booze, it matters not.The location of this place and the intentions for it are at odds with peaceful living for local residents. We are already subject to the erosion of the area due to the listed reasons above (albeit a touch dramatically put) and the immediate streets around Temple Road are under continued parking pressure. I have no doubt that eventually the Centre will get what they want as they’ve spent too much on plans etc to let it slide; it will get through by stealth.The “sale of alcohol” is a red herring - I went to many a bash when younger when booze wasn’t bought. You got a raffle tickets that entitles you to win whatever you wanted at the bar, or it was £30 to get in and all drink was free or it was a BYO affair. That aside, you don’t need to be lagged up to be a nuisance - you can do that sitting on plastic chairs under a makeshift smoking shelter talking loudly into the night, by loud music, by leaving an establishment late and walking back to your car in adjacent streets etc, etcNext we’ll have the Wickes development with 300 flats and the pressure cranks up even more.Where to breathe......

I did check on the Ealing Council website and saw that the sale of alcohol wasn't listed, which is why I was asking why several people were reacting as if it was.

Hi Peter,I assure you that our application does not include sale of alcohol. The notices displayed around the perimeter of the society clearly state "There is no application for the sale of Alcohol) . Please call me ( 07831368520) or E mail me, so that we can arrange a time for you  to meet me for a coffee, at the society and you can see for your self. How come Mr Babakhan's explanation is so at odds with the initial contributors to this topic? Is the application for the sale of alcohol or isn't it? Does the anti-social behaviour come from the Assyrian Centre or doesn't it? I don't live in the area, so all I know about this place is what I read here - so which is it?

SimonThanks , I sincerely hope that someone will accept my invitation  to explain everything about our society  and start a  neighbourly relation with all residents.  A few years ago I met with two residents at the society's premises and explained the situation with a planning application to replace the old wooden fence . They left the meeting  satisfied with explanation . Everyone agrees that the new brick fence now blends nicely with the building.

Dear Jane,I am a Trustee of Assyrian Society , I fully understand your genuine concerns regarding our application for Entertainment Licence and its impact on lives of residents in the vicinity of our Society., let me assure you that the our application is NOT for sale of alcohol , more than 10 years ago we decided not apply for any form of licence to sell alcohol on our premises. The application is for music, food and non alcoholic drinks after 11pm . Obtaining the licence will not change in anyway the way we operate, more than 95% of our activities does not require a licence.  To put your mind at rest , I invite you and any other resident to visit our society and discuss how we can open  channels  of communication to solve  problems or you can  call me on 07831368520  to discuss all aspects of our application  The disturbance and anti social behaviour you described does not come from our members it caused by  noisy groups of drunken youth and young men leaving nearby pups and bars often our members suffer abuse . The best thing to do is to contact the local safer neighboughood team and inform them of the situation. They probably know about it already but need to be asked to intervene.

Harold that is a million dollar question these days! Bearing in mind that there are a massive number of closures of London Police Stations at the moment and in the recent past, I have had a quick look for the website at South Ealing Local Police Unit which is about two mins walk from the Assyrian centre and I think that it may well be closed permanently as there are now no contacts. As for Northfield local police office there are still police officers listed  and there is actually a "contact us" button on their website (whether it works or suggests 101 phone or Ealing Police Station in the Uxbridge road I don't know). The Northfield Police Office website is https://www.met.police.uk/a/your-area/met/ealing/northfield/.  I am just starting to mull over who to contact re: the Assyrian centre plans myself. Unfortunately, Police non emergency are very inaccessible  I think... Unfortunately I cannot spot an easily accessible email address for Met Police contact. I may well be wrong and maybe someone else knows how to get easy communication and would love to know myself!

Maybe if you could convince the local police to object to this application that would go a long way to help getting the license turned down. They almost certainly know about the anti-social behaviour and hopefully would be willing to help.

I am pleased that the application for this licence is being talked about and objected to.  If the application is granted it will adversely affect people living in the neighbourhood with the additional noise and problems with more vehicles until the early hours. This venue is already a very busy and at times extremely noisy place often until the early hours when there are events on. I live very near the Assyrian Centre and only became aware that the application was being submitted when I saw a small printed notice (which I assume is a legal requirement) posted outside the Assyrian Centre and only looked at it as I had a few minutes to wait for the 65 bus!! I will be contacting the councillor and hope that others in the South Ealing area will find the time to do likewise and give their views.  Does anyone know if there is anyone organising a petition objecting to it or such like?
