Still thereNewsDear All, The Police have finally exercised their section 61 (of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act) powers this morning and the “second” encampment by Elm Avenue has moved on.Grounds contractor is now on site to assess clean up. The trees officers will assess the health of the burnt out tree to see if it can be saved following the alleged arson.Updates and photos on http://ealingcommon.yourcllr.com/2018/08/27/second-encampment-on-ealing-common-this-weekend/ The “third” encampment by Leopold Road and Ealing Common station that arrived yesterday still remains. The council is conducting vehicle registration checks (if they are the same as recent encampments in the borough) together with welfare assessments as part of the legal process the council needs to conduct. Unless the travellers depart of their own accord the legal process will carry on ‘til next week.Updates and photos on http://ealingcommon.yourcllr.com/2018/08/29/third-encampment-on-ealing-common-in-less-than-ten-days/ We also had the “first” encampment of the three last week - http://ealingcommon.yourcllr.com/2018/08/20/travellers-encamp-on-warwick-road-extension-again/ I would like to thank all residents who have provided me with updates, photos and video footage so I could get a complete picture of what’s happening from all corners of the Common. Also, I thank residents who sent me links to legal documents and articles which have been extremely useful and very appreciated. I am awaiting legal approval of a petition to get a borough-wide injunction (two stages, firstly, short-term such as three-six months then a five year extension). Bromley and Elmbridge have successfully applied for their injunctions this month. Hope you are able to support me in this initiative. Ealing Common Travellers - Update Dear Watch Member,Following up on a conversation with one of the officers, Safer Community Team, at the Council, I have asked for a situation update, for circulation, and they have promptly obliged. Please see below:"Please be assured that the Police and council officers have visited the Ealing Common site this morning. Welfare checks and a site impact assessment have been completed by LBE. Police have also issued a Code of Conduct to the travellers on site. The usual process will be followed and the site will be monitored by LBE and Police. Our colleagues in Parks are leading and are in liaison with our legal team about issuing Notices that would require the encampment to leave Ealing Common. I understand that residents may be concerned that this group is the same as those on Orion Park, Northfields but we can confirm that they are not further to our welfare check/site assessment today. I would strongly urge residents or members of the community to report to the police any ASB or criminal activity including flytipping and they should respond accordingly. If they are able to collect evidence whilst maintaining their safety this would be beneficial. LBE will be in communication with our police colleagues and work in partnership to deter escalation and expedite measures" If you need to reply regarding this message, click on this email address: ealingowl@hotmail.comRegards,Suzanne Tanswell Community Coordinator Neighbourhood Watch Email: ealingowl@hotmail.com
