Sewing Machine problem,,,advice please!

I have a HYINDAI 60 Stitch Sewing Machine, and although I had it quite some time I never used it, until yesterday!  While I was sewing it suddenly jerked and stopped sewing!It seems like a problem with the bobbin, the instructions are useless. I looked at troubleshooting on the internet but didn't find it much help.Please can someone help?  Thanks a lot.

I wonder how easy it is to carry a sewing machine in a wheeled shopper?  Our lives have changed since everyone had cars.  A greater per cent now don't again.  So the workmen/women who call have an increasing importance in our lives.

I am delighted to tell Joan and everyone on the forum who kindly answered my request for help with my sewing machine thanks to Denis Smith I now have a lovely working Sewing Machine!The Hyundai machine is actually not worth repairing, instead my New World machine is much better quality and well worth the effort from Denis to get it going again.I would strongly recommend Denis Smith if any of you need repairs on a sewing machine. Joan, I contacted Denis as you suggested. Unfortunately despite a couple of telephone calls from Denis saying he was busy but assured me that he would get back in touch I heard nothing further.Nowadays it seems really difficult to find someone to help repair things, no wonder it is now a throwaway society!

How about contacting Brentford Recycling Action Group to see if they have any ideas on how you can progress?  What you need is one of the Repair Cafes like the ones that I have found in the West London Waste newsletter and advertised.  The problem is that you have to get there - which I know is a problem for you.

How I wish it was that easy Philippa! If it was a minor problem my husband could have fixed it.Finding someone reliable to take a look has been impossible. The shop in Shepherd's Bush wanted £75 just to take a look it at it! I only paid £79 for the sewing machine in the first place as it was on special offer!There is no point spending lots of money for nothing. As for the other machine, it has completely jammed up, the wheel will not turn any way. So unfortunately I can see us having to dispose of 2 sewing machines.

Is it jammed with thread?  Do you need to clear it with a Quick-unpick?  I always get the thread sorted out by gently turning the wheel by hand until I have caughtthe spool thread and brought it through to the top of the material.  Then I pull enough thread through behind the foot so that it can't get pulled the wrong way. Start on an old piece of material from the ragbag.In the past I've also put the spool in the wrong way round and then it didn't work!I notice there are more sewing courses around now than there used to be and the dry cleaners often have someone who might help.  If you have a smartphone perhaps you could take a picture and show them the problem?Chances are that you are better at it than me!Good luck.

No luck so far unfortunately. Still waiting for someone to have a look at it but it is not easy finding a reliable person to come along and take a look.I now have 2 sewing machines which need attention as well meaning friends gave us a sewing machine which once belonged to their daughter, that machine is completely jammed.If I can't find someone to get one of these machines working without costing an arm and a leg I am just going to get rid of them!

How did you get on Jean?I've just started to use my sewing machine again after several years.  I was worried that I wouldn't be able to remember how to thread it but I surprised myself.  It is so satisfying to have done some of the sewing jobs that I've had to ignore for a while.

Hi Jean,I recently got a new machine, so have a Singer Promise that works, (though I was a bit forceful with the hand wheel.. so it's wobbly) that is sitting idle on my dining room floor atm incase you wanted a 3rd sewing machine to add to your collection :)

Oh my word, I never knew we had so many jokers on Ealing Forum! :-)The sew and sews are the people who sold me a useless sewing machine!!!Hyundai have no contact address on the internet and Poundstretcher didn't even respond to my email highlighting the problem.To add to the situation, kind friends gave me their daughter's old sewing machine but it was stored for a long time and is completely jammed up! So I now have 2 useless sewing machines and that is not a joke!
