Is this really the full story of the strike on the District line?

My jaw dropped when I read the reasons for the strike today on the District line in the newsletter. It claims that a member of staff was transferred at the Acton Depot was transferred from being a driver to a station role after being involved in a number of safety incidents including passing a red signal. The employee in question agreed to the reassignment.Yet now the union have called a strike. This is so outrageous I have to question whether this is the full story. It is bordering on criminal if the union are effectively trying to force management to keep on using a driver who is a danger to passengers and doesn't want to carry on anyway. If there isn't more to this story than has been reported then ASLEF and the staff at Acton Depot who voted for a strike are a disgrace.

It does seem very odd particularly as ASLEF generally have tended to be the more sensible union (relative to the RMT that is, so it's a low bar). As I understand it both unions operate at the depot so maybe it is something to do with a turf war between the two - with ASLEF trying to show they can be just as militant as the RMT.
