Can't fathom this one out.  Boston Manor Road was one of the easier roads to cycle going North/ South as it was wider and had good clear junctions and access for both cycles and larger vehicles. But already buses have come close to colliding and trucks clipped the mirrors of the bus I was on last week.  The brakes are getting applied harder a lot more. And cyclists will still use the road heading south as it's going to be too much bother crossing back over. This is the case with other routes. But it will be far more hazardous than it is. But that won't be enough to change many cyclists habits. The sheer amount of civil works just to do a cycle route that does not really go anywhere, seems like a massive indulgence when we keep hearing about funds being in dire shortage.I do wonder just how many potholes and ruts in side roads could have been properly repaired and made more cycle friendly.  Dozens of side roads are peppered with potholes and poor surfaces that render them quite hazardous to cycle in (especially at night in wet weather - puddles can conceal quite deep holes) when in all other respects, they are a far more practicable and safer option. Those of us who do cycle this area locally, know that the deceptive inclines and heavy traffic can be largely avoided by using the side streets. While it might add a couple of mins on to the journey, it's safer, cleaner and you get to where you're going in a more respectable state. And that's being missed. A cycle is a go anywhere means and at it's best for local journeys. It seems that these routes only accommodate the super fit, speedy and more ardent cyclists. Reality is that for most, it won't last any more than sprinting for the bus does.
