There are so many dis-satisfied People raising valid Issues

Why is it that the present local councillors do not have the decency to participate and show this community that they care? one or two people openly enjoy telling us that no-body listens to them in the council chambers.So they justify doing nothing , or trying to do something that might be possible .It is as though the local councillors use this arguement for taking a LONG HOLIDAY. Time some of these people should be replaced and not paid to occupy a position just for making up their numbers in situations that they prefer to occupy for their own private influence  it may command. It is  shameful cowardice.

The other good way for those who are mobile is to go and talk to councillors at their surgeries. My experience (90-98) was that few do except the serial complainants with bees in their bonnets.

It's easier if you are online to raise issues - as Oswald is.Just think what it is like for those who aren't online!  Our elderly relatives were used to using the standard landline telephone - not mobiles or cordless ones which can get lost, fall out of reach or run out of charge - and are more difficult if you can't see or hear and don't have as good use of your fingers or sense of touch as you used to.  Reducing access by telephone closes down access to a large number of residents.The state of the pavements puts many in hospital putting yet more pressure on our hospitals and social services yet I see paving stones which could be reported by the many who rush past on their mobiles as well as those who sit inside shops and cafes remaining cracked, rolling and dangerous.Next time you see or step on one of these stones - report it!  It might be one of you or yours who next fall and in the stressed society we are in now that can lead to a domino effect.  https://www.ealing.gov.uk/site/You can find your Councillors by going to the bottom right hand side of the front page.

"Why is it that the present local councillors do not have the decency to participate and show this community that they care?"Actually, in the case of Southall, many councillors simply do not have the ability to represent or participate in council proceedings in any meaningful or effective way. Sad, but that is the reality. Often, those who are articulate, like councillor Anand, simply don't seem to care and don't seem to want to stand up for their ward residents either.

Yes Peter. I await with interest the results of the consultation on the Marie Stokes protests. I regret the Conservative councillors appear wimps or fans of the Acton MP in this.

Very True Graham, We have a centralised administration where local councillors are marginalised. Very sad but I feel that honest debate between local representatives is a thing of the past. Consultation is something that the powers that be want to control. whether the government or local council they really don't want debate and that is both main parties represented. I think we can both be rightly disappointed in our parties and their approach to listending to the people!!

With what we see here it would appear that there is very little debate or scrutiny in the council. we have seen that planning applications are hidden and neighbours not informed. Maybe some councillors have lost enthusiasm for holding people to account? The cabinet and executives appear even more remote. i am hoping that Labour will have an influx of newer councillors who will ask plenty of questions about important questions before they eventually get worn down.
