Councillor Anand fails to support residents in her ward

Most people will remember the problems that existed during the time when the Tudor Rose club was running, until the council closed it down in 2015. But the owners have recently put in an licensing application to reopen, with the licensing sub-committee hearing set for 7 March.What is interesting, looking at the documents now available for the sub-committee meeting, there is no objection put in by councillor Anand. To their credit, a number of councillors, including councillor Dheer, have submitted their serious concerns about allowing the club to reopen in this unsuitable location.It is a poor reflection on councillor Jasbir Anand, that, she being the ward councillor for the area in which Tudor Rose is located, has shown no interest in supporting her ward residents and the people of Southall.It is indeed a sad state of affairs when non-ward councillors are willing to speak up for Southall, yet the ward councillor chooses to remain silent. Has it not occurred to her that this is a major issue that is important for the people of Southall?One is left thinking that she simply does not care.

Just for the record, councillor Jasbir Anand was forced to mention the Tudor Rose Club, when she had to respond to a question from residents asking about the closure of the club back in the Sep 2011 Southall Green Ward Forum:'Councillor Anand confirmed that the licence had been suspended, and that there was a hearing shortly of the council’s Licensing Committee, to consider the matter further.'

I understood that in recent years there was approval by the council to build a new car park in the Town. I may be mistaken but I thought at the time it was the opposite to what was happening in other parts of the borough. It is probably the Old Cattle Market which was done in 2013.

I'm not sure which new car parks might you be referring to, unless I've missed something. Southall is the focal point for over-development in Ealing! The car park behind the Dominion Centre is set to be developed on in the next few years.

In a sense we know that the Asian population will Vote Labour because of the way the Unions and others mobilised when the Asian Population grew in Southall. If enough people become members of the party and become active then maybe something can happen. Also the younger group must attack "Tory behaviour" amongst the Labour people in Southall. So a Momentum inspired revolution is perhaps the only hope. It is also my view that the current cabinet knows that even if they lose a few seats to the Tories in Leafy Ealing, Southall will remain Labour and allow then to do what they want. I am a Labour supporter and am delighted that Corbyn has encouraged people to get involved. But also feel that Ealing has been a strange administration. We see Southall getting car parks and yet the rest of the borough getting them built upon. We see West Ealing losing it's parking whilst Southall got a new car park. There is a contradiction here in the dynamic of how Labour run things. I hope that the newer council candidates can start to change things.

I agree, the two issues of "the arrogance of those who will always be voted in can mean contempt for the Voters", and the need to empower a fresh generation to better serve people of Southall get to the heart of the issue.But the difficult question is, how do we achieve this, given intransigence of the local Labour party in dealing with the long-standing corruption when it comes to Southall councillor selection?

It does seem strange. Most councillors know where their bread is buttered, but sadly the arrogance of those who will always be voted in can mean contempt for the Voters. It would be good to see some Momentum activity or younger people engaged in Southall Politics. There are some worthy people who have done a lot over the years amongst the community but perhaps we need to see a fresh generation there that can serve people better.

Can anybody think of a reason why Councillor Jasbir Anand would take the position of not supporting residents in opposing the granting of this nightclub?

One is left wondering that perhaps for Jasbir Anand, business and personal interests are far more important than what matter to the people of Southall and her ward.

It should also be remembered that councillor Jasbir Anand also failed dismally to raise her voice in support of her ward and neighbouring ward residents when the council held a review of the clubs license in June 2015 (which led to the closure of the premises as a night club).

Reading the documents, I'm pleasantly surprised to see that MP Virendra Sharma has lodged his objection!"I am strongly opposed to the site reopening s a nightclub as The Green is a residential area and the safety my constituents is the utmost importance to me"
