Problem is that there's not much to choose from is there?Very poor ward councillors who do not lift a finger.A closed clique at the top who are far from able.Discontented and apathetic councillors on the ruling side.An opposition that has almost vaporised and is not able to seize on the high degree of discontent even among those who vote Labour.A fraternity of unelected executives who are clearly politically and career motivated, rather than impartial public servants, and are not reminded of this.Fact is, we vote for these candidates and we get what we deserve. Not helped by poor manifestos that are vague and dodge lots of questions, and a sheer evasiveness if one does ask the pertinent questions.Elections are coming up. It will no doubt be just the same after.Personally, I think the continuing contradictions of party politics is the root of this (and other) borough's problems, and that non aligned people who are just as able but not tainted by doctrines and policies, but care about the people and areas in which they live would run things better. There are good local councillors out there, with a great sense of duty, honour and integrity, but they are always elbowed out by the ambitious and ego driven fraternity. No wonder there are so few solid and able candidates. It's a right turn off.The 50 year experiment of the Superboroughs is a failure. Over population and densification cannot be managed with a broad brush in such a way and be of a quality we should all expect.Time for a radical overhaul from Government level right down to the Parish Council?
