Heathrow Third Runway

Apparently they're going to be in the flight path - something to do with re-routing because existing flight path sufferers have had enough and have protested so much that paths have been and will continue to be diverted.

If we are going to keep pace with world growth, economically, I suspect new runways at both Heathrow and Gatwick will be necessary.  Perhaps Boris Island was one of his more sensible ideas for the long term.Incidentally just curious how Dorking affected by Gatwick aircraft noise - must be 10 - 12 miles away?

However my point is that Heathrow expansion has too many environmental hurdles to get over. the opposition may be strong in both places but it is the actual obstacles and financial sides that need to be considered. I suppose the thought of demolishing John McDonnell's constituency might also appeal to those tories. I would have thought that the various costs on Heathrow expansion might expand as the complexity becomes known!!

Their opposition is also very well organised though Peter. We have friends in Dorking who are in the firing line for Gatwick expansion and the ladies of Surrey are pretty militant and will carry a lot of weight in the Tory heartlands.

Considering the environmental impact, i can see many obstacles to the development of this runway. I would think that Gatwick could resurrect their plan in 2019 when the agreement with sussex council expires and get one done a lot quicker than heathrow would. It is an interesting thought because with different owners to heathrow a competition could be easier for gatwick!! also their costings are much lower.

This isn't new news. The timetable for bringing the issue for a vote to the House of Commons was known a few months ago. Chris Grayling has just repeated what he has said previously.
