And herein lays the problem of surrendering parliamentary representation. Before the Wilson referendum the electorate were expected to chose, and give thought to choosing wisely, the person they considered best able to represent their views in Parliament and take decisions on their behalf. Now that responsibility has been diminished by abrogating it to a referendum, and as in the case of the Irish Republic, the executive asks the question again, in a slightly different form to obtain the decision it requires. As in the case of Article 50 power must return to Parliament and have done for ever with referendum, which are anything but democratic in a parliamentary representative system of government.
