proposed footbridge between Brentford & Kew

An idea that makes sense to me - Kew Bridge is a horrible crossing for pedestrians and cyclists and a footbridge that would allow us to avoid the traffic and fumes sounds like a great idea. Local architects Acanthus (based in Chiswick) have come up with the idea and are looking for crowd funding to cover the initial costs of preparation work for submission of planning applications next summer. The project only got a fraction of the funding it was looking for and the crowd funding effort appears to have been abandoned.

I think the bit between the Max Factor building and Watermans will be opened up if those developments get the go ahead. Not sure about coming from the other direction. Even in the best case I can't see that many people carrying on along the path past Kew Bridge to use a pedestrian bridge at this point so the footfall would be very low.

Currently there would be very limited access or footfall to the Brentford side of the bridge so I couldn't see many people using it. It would be much easier for people coming from the east to use Kew Bridge if they wanted to get to Kew Gardens. This situation would improve if the Thames Path stayed by the river all the way from Kew Bridge to the proposed new bridge but I'm not sure that is what is happening.

As Kew Gardens would be a main beneficiary it seems surprising that they weren't willing to give even limited financial backing at this stage of the process. Similarly the owners of the developments near Ferry Lane would have to make a relatively small investment compared to their size to get this project off the ground yet they have not. Seems peculiar that it is the general public who are being asked to put their hands in their pockets.

I have read elsewhere a suggestion that the bridge should cross at Old Isleworth where there is currently no crossing.
