Cherington Rd, W7

Does anybody know why the exit from Cherington Rd, where it feeds into Uxbridge Road, has been permanently reduced to a single lane?  Seems a crazy thing to do.Unless Cherington Road will have its direction of flow reversed? (ie will traffic flow now enter Cherington Rd at Hanwell Clock Tower?).  Such a scheme was talked about a few years ago.The single lane seems a very odd thing to do.

Glad to report that the Cherington Rd junction (with Uxbridge Rd) is back to two lanes.  For now.  Until they start digging it all up again, no doubt next month sometime.  Anybody want to make some bets?  (The contractors have been working many months around the Hanwell Clock Tower. I do wonder what the game is, if it isn't obvious).

Panic over - it does appear that Cherington's Rd's two lanes will remain. As previous posters have said, the new 'raised' crossing is being installed in two phases. But why the workers are making such a meal of replacing the previous raised crossing, I have no idea.  I can only assume the contractors are charging the council on an hourly basis, and not 'per job'.

Happy to admit when I am wrong as the new 'kerbing' which was at the edge of the raised platform and would lead anyone to think that the pavement was being extended has now been dug up (or was in the process of being smashed out with a JCB mounted drill) when I drove past ten minutes ago.It also looks like a fair bit of the recently laid kerb is also being taken up.  Wil we ever see the completion of these works?

It's clear the intention is that it will still be two lanes.A raised paved crossing is being installed across, and one lane at a time is being closed to facilitate this.Go and have a second look.

The Cherington Rd pedestrian crossing had been turned into a raised platform many years ago. Maybe the paving work they are now carrying out is purely cosmetic (like the rest of the paving 'project' that has taken many months to complete, around the Hanwell Clock Tower), and the two lanes will remain.  One can only hope so.

I've seen cyclists jumping lights pulled up by police, happen ask the time.Best one i see was a police officer ball out a cyclist to get off his bike, walk it back and wait for the light. The look on the cyclist's face was priceless, it was like he was transported back to school!

They can of course identify drivers who have a vehicle registration plate on cameras and they deserve their £100 minimum fine and three points (I would make it six myself as there is no excuse).Cyclists, of course, cannot be thus identified and get off scot free when they ignore red lights

If you look at the 'left hand lane' under the temporary barriers, you can see that the paving has been extended to restrict the road width.However, it would not surprise me to see the paving dug up or replaced at some future point given the debacle that the simple re-paving exercise has become.Don't get me started about the street drinkers re-congregating there either.

And while we all strive to reduce the impact of pollution having vehicles stationery along a route used to serve at least two local schools for protracted periods due solely to poor junction design is inexcusable.Direct your 'anger' at Ealing Council's inept staff.

The crossing to the north has a pedestrian phase with a green man, always has had.I understand the end goal is to have pedestrian crossing on all arms of the junction. It's madness it's been left without them for so long.

There is no pedestrian crossing on the south of the junction (top of Boston Road, and never has been) one less red light for cyclists to ignore.The crossings on the east is a simple 'red light crossing' as is the crossing to the north. It would not be beyond the wit of Ealing Council (or perhaps it would given the two years the paving works have taken) to implement countdown crossings.However, the restriction to a single exit lane from Cherrington Road makes the junction more polluting and actually more dangerous for cyclists as other vehicle users no longer have the space (given the narrowness of the single lane) to give adequate space to other road users.

Utter rubbish. There were two clearly marked lanes for a reason. The left lane to go straight ahead onto Boston Road. The right lane to turn right onto Uxbridge Road westbound.The whole junction was signal controlled with full working pedestrian crossings.How has this made thing better for 'ALL users'?Or is this your typical, tedious in the extreme, cycling-centric twaddle?

The (Fred Hunt) linked document vaguely talks about converting the Boston Rd/Cherington Rd/Uxbridge Rd (currently traffic lights controlled) junction into a roundabout?  I thought that idea was scrapped years ago?  And why wasn't the Cherington Rd lane restriction roadworks done when the pavements were being replaced (during the never-ending recent 'Clock Tower' area 'regeneration' paving works)?  All very odd.  And inefficient.  And costly.

My only thought of any logic (in making Cherington Rd a single lane) is if 'Road Planning' reverses its direction of traffic flow, thereby making Cherington Road a 'bleed off' from Uxbridge Road to Church Rd, north-east bound.I've done a cursory search on Ealing Council's website, but couldn't find any Highways Dept mention of changes to Cherington Road.

The queues and, as a consequence, pollution are now longer (and higher).Nothing surprises me with the crass stupidity of Ealing Council and their vehicle hating 'transport' officers.
