I have thought long and hard about this new attempt at selling Southall Town Hall and I have come to the conclusion that it should be disposed of to the highest bidder. Preferable would be just demolishing it and building social housing or another gp surgery in its place however the great and the good of Ealing would probably mount a campaign to save it on architectural merit or something like that. Soselling it with some kind of listing is probably the most palatable. A few years ago I would have clamoured to save it, however, with the tight financial times that we live in a new building somewhere else that didn't cost the earth to maintain, etc., would probably be preferable. We can't live in the past forever and turning Ealing into a museum doesn't really help the residents. I have come to the conclusion that we should live in the present and look after our residents rather than trying to preserve some kind of halcyon past that never really existed.
