Proud of Ealing and proud of London

All my young people finally got out and voted Labour. What a pity they didn't do that in the referendum. If they had we wouldn't be in this disastrous position.

This is an observation concerning race and I really do not care it anyone deems it racist for it is merely an observation. I saw few vicitims of the recent terrible fire who appears to be from the indigenous English.

Corbyn hasn’t ‘ordered’ anyone to do anything. With impeccable constitutional correctness he has simply offered to form a government, just as Heath tried to do when the Tories won fewer seats than Labour in February 1974.As for comedic value, the spectacle of the Nasty Party (Theresa May’s description) struggling to form its very own Coalition of Chaos to get it out of This Mess (Theresa May’s description) looks rather more promising than anything Jeremy Corbyn may – or may not – have done.

Michael Howard won an extra 30 seats for the Cons in 2005 and resigned. It's very strange that Labour are behaving as if they won. I guess it's because expectations were so low.Credit to Corbyn though, he ran a far more spirited campaign than the Maybot.Personally I don't think Labour's problems have gone away. They'll struggle to win unless the SNP collapse and they'll need to take Tory seats with older demographics. I also wonder how the youngsters will feel when it dawns on them that even though they voted the Tories are still in government.

In 1979 Callaghan with 269 seats admitted defeat and resigned.In 1992 Kinnock with 271 seats admitted defeat and resigned.2017 Corbyn with 262 seats refuses to admit defeat and was ordering the winner to resign.You really couldn't make it up.Sounds so much like a Sketch for a  from Spitting Image episode.

According to Migration Observatory, an independent research group, total immigration rose from 516,000/year under Labour to over 570,000 a year under the Tories. The net figures were around 200,000/year and 250,000/year, respectively. Sorry, but there’s not much mileage here for critics of Labour. There are now 19 Tory MPs with ethnic minority heritage. And there is at least one ultra-Conservative, Daniel Kawczynski (who once stood unsuccessfully in Southall) with Polish origins. There are another 19 ethnic minority Conservatives in the Lords.Somehow I can’t quite see all these immigrants ‘without exception voting Labour’.

Not true. Demographics[edit]The borough of Ealing is ethnically diverse. In 2011, 49% gave their ethnicity as white, 30% as Asian, 15% as Black and 4.5% as of mixed or multiple ethnicity, the remainder identifying as Arab or other ethnicity.[1] The main religions of the borough's population in 2011 were Christianity (44%), Islam (16%) and Sikhism (8%); 15% stated they had no religion and a further 7% did not state any religion.[4]

The reason some immigrants wont vote conservative would be that sadly there are some members of the Party for whom bigotry is the norm and so they would not have been welcome. However I have met many conservatives who are tolerant decent and inclusive people. Also immigration is a Policy encouraged by all parties at different times. Blair was encouraged by big business to open the doors to get cheap labour. With the minimum wage we are now a bargain basement economy. Also remember that the Polish people helped us during the war and contributed to the Battle of Britain. This was when Ireland was neutral. Many Irish people helped us also in our time of need. House prices, pollution and a housing shortage is forcing many people out of London. And what would you class as immigrants. Irish, Scots, Welsh, Northerners? I am an immigrant and I am English. I came to London 38 years ago to better myself. London has had immigrants including Huguenots, Jews, Irish, Spanish and many coming from places of conflict or persecution. They found a home and built a life. Dennis i am sure if you look back at your history there will be people from outside of London, maybe some who had problems where they are from. But Great Cities like London and New York are built by the incoming people. So what if people Vote Labour. Is there anything wrong with that. Or should we scrap democracy?

You are not correct about the Poles, certainty older ones. I used to have a customer who lived next to the Kinnocks. He told me that Neil asked him how to get the Polish vote. My friend replied that he should stand as a Conservative.

None ! We all know there are more immigrants in Ealing than British people! So don't feel proud , we all know Labours policy of mass immigration has forced British people out of London , and every immigrant without exception will vote for Labour ! You must be really proud !

This wonderfully heartening election may have produced no national winners, but it is clearly an absolute triumph for Ealing’s MPs. All now have five figure majorities, with Rupa Huq raising hers from less than 300 to almost 14,000 – an astounding achievement, richly deserved. Incidentally, just in case those witty folk who occasionally invoke her name on this website have missed it, Diane Abbott has yet again raised her majority. At over 35,000 it is among the top half dozen in the entire nation, and bigger than that of any Tory throughout the length and breadth of the land. Is it possible - just possible - that somebody, somewhere, has got something right?Pride? Yes, it is indeed good, very good, to be living in a borough, and a city, where sanity, decency and vision have prevailed against the tide of filth that has poured without cease from the gutter press and right-wing social media throughout this election.

Yes it is a pity Jeremy Corbyn didn't put any effort into mobilising the youth votes for the referendum - perhaps there was nothing for him personally to gain from that.If it wasn't for the disastrous brexit vote we wouldn't be in any of this mess.

When i was a lad i felt that Tory and Labour Politicians were often ex National Service people who had done something else in their lives before entering politics. So whether a shade of blue or red they mainly had a profound sense of service to the country. They may have agreed or disagreed but they had a sense of duty. I have felt that Since Thatcher and this includes Blair that their own naked ambition was more important than the country. I have found Theresa May to be the identikit image of everything that is wrong about the modern politician. I Voted Labour but in the mayoral elections i voted for Boris over Ken. So I will always Vote for who in my opinion is the best for my area and the country. I expect the knives to be out for her and so how can she govern the country and negotiate at the same time? That is where her incompetence has brought us.

It was extremely poor judgement Graham and made from a position of arrogance and ignorance of the effect of years of austerity. There were 2 Brexits....right wingers like yourself and the dispossessed who had nothing to lose. God forbid we get Boris but I think that is our fate now. And relying on the DUP, makes me shudder !

True Graham, but i bad misjudgement. The fact that New Labour over a period had alienated people followed by an austerity Tory government meant that he did not get the vote he wanted. also at the time he brought back a piece of paper that meant nothing. Really Theresa May is an empty vessel and totally lacks the credibility to negotiate. I am awaiting the first Tories to say she must go. Graham do you think she can stay now?

No, it would at least have been clear. We are in limbo land. The referendum was a huge mistake and many people in the south misunderstood the result. It was largely a rejection of the status quo, i.e. hard right, hard nosed Tory policy which had left large swathes of people dispossessed and without hope.
