March Joke (not Smile!) National Grid - (Not so) Responsible Business of the Year 2014

As I watched the National Gird van park up in the busy bus stop outside South Ealing Tube station I had to laugh.It was not a hearty laugh at the joke proper, it was at the joke that is National Grid. On the side of the van was a proud label."Responsible Bsuiness of the Year 2014". What was the gentleman from Nationa Grid doing that was so urgent it required him to block a bus stop and leave his warning lights flashing?It was to deliver notices (paperwork) to the all premises around the bus stop one by one. Plenty of free parking everywhere at mid-day around South Ealing, so why block the bus stop?Does anyone know what National Grid are about to do at South Ealing tube station that requires such urgent notices?Are they about to rip the road up in the yearly topical search for the all-too-evident gas leaks that they never seem to manage to fix for more than a few months?Is South Ealing about to be ripped up like the junction between the South Ealing Road and the A4 is being at the moment as we are subject to yet more gas main repairs that never quite seem to work?I almost don't want to know! Especial by a business that is so responsible that it blocks bus stops.Some photographs follow in the next post

Transco is gearing up for major action around the Costa Coffee and Mleczko shops at South Ealing Underground Station. There was a man with an electronic sniffer "casing" the area, utility covers have been lifted to vent gas on both side of the Airedale Road junction and there are yellow gas markings on the pavement and in the road in the Bus Stop area.Its Spring! There gas roadworks in South Ealing!

Its like a gas leak again. Every year and sometimes a couple of times a year they dig up part of the road around South Ealing tube and fail to fix the leaks. There is a another manhole with its cover lifted and a nice enclosure venting the leaking gas on the corner of Airedale and South Ealing roads. There is this mega gas main from the time of Brentford gas works (probably 150 years old) that is about a yard across and made of cast iron. It would cost tens of millions to replace and runs all the way from Brentford to Ealing Broadway. Anyway, its old, past it, and cracks and leaks all over Ealing. Expect area around Costa Coffee to be dug up again soon.This is the same gas main that is being urgently repaired at a leisurely pace at the junction of the A4 and South Ealing road that has that junction closed.

I like the little fly-tip at the National Gris/Transco guy's feet in the picture. I suppose the bin is geographically described as between the empire hardressers and the costa coffee shop. I have noticed on my way to work that the whole of South Ealing high road is lined with piles of dumped bags like this every morning. It is strange that our Labour council is prepared to take this rubbish in bags or even just completely loose away free for businesses. This takes place every morning, but the council is not prepared to give Ealing's residents a weekly domestic collection and requires wheelie bins. It is a strange definition of Socialism Mr Bell where the people subsidise business.
