Ealing consulting on CPZ in Gunnersbury Park

CPZ? Best not to think of it as an authoritarian "Controlled Parking Zone" but more as a user friendly "Community Parking Zone" - just like they do in neighbouring Richmond.

Having completed a consultation for Hanwell Station i can honestly say that the consultation is totally inadequate.It did not even ask about hours.

I was mistaken to say that no CPZ is ever set up with more limited operating hours - they clearly are. The impression I get from people who have gone through this process is that achieving this can be difficult - for instance a range of options is given including more than one for limited hours and when the consultation results are returned all day operation is deemed the 'most-popular' despite the majority of respondents wanting limited hours.You are right of course that only a minority respond and many complain after the event without having paid attention at the time. In their defence we all get lots of forms to fill in through the post and often they go into a 'pending' pile. A few more prompts from the Council that a consultation is ongoing would probably increase awareness and the level of response ensuring parking arrangements that people genuinely want.

If that is what the residents put down on the majority of consultation forms that's what you will get. As for not being consulted, every house/flat/residence that is within the proposed new CPZ area will get a form to fill and return. If you don't get a form then lobby your local Councillors.Certainly the way it happened for Little Ealing 2 years ago so I'm not sure where you are citing your information from.Problem is that you'll usually find the minority respond and so it is the majority of the lesser that command whats happens. Got to love apathy in people only for the very same people to bemoan after the event. You can search for all the past consultations and see the results and compare to what has been implemented. Fine revenue would be minimal in areas with CPZ's but the levies for the permits will produce far greater, especially when you start including 2nd and 3rd permits per residence.

Popes Lane has restrictions for just one hour in the morning and one in the afternoon. I'm not sure if anyone actually polices them, though. Plenty of roads around the Gunnersbury estate and Acton Town station have similar restrictions.

I think the problem is that the contractor does not employ enough people to cover all the areas that want the reduced restriction.  Perhaps the Council should employ another contractor that does?  They probably employ the same contractor as other nearby boroughs where residents also want the same reduced restrictions.  Why shouldn't residents have a solution that suits them rather than a solution that just suits the contractor?

Residents always just want limited hours of operation to deter commuter parking but they never get it. The reason is that fine revenue would collapse if there was only a limited window of opportunity for traffic wardens. Possibly if residents coordinated responses to these consultations to make sure that an all day restriction isn't imposed the Council would have to give people what they want. It may be they do little to publicise the consultations so they can claim people are indifferent. As far as I am aware it is also possible to lobby for a change in the hours of operation of an existing CPZ if there is sufficient demand from residents.

The Trees Estate needs it but only 9-10 and 3-4. the 10-7.30 ones are mostly un-necessary and OTT.

I got a leaflet through the door yesterday so assume that the Tree estate had the same.

It would be interesting to see whether anyone has been given a notification within this area of the consultation through a leaflet? In Hanwell we have not received that at all. and there are less than 3 weeks left. I have my suspicions about the councils desire to implement more CPZ's and it would be interesting to know whether these consultations have been notified to all residents. I answered mine and it is so minimal and without any detail. Another reason to be suspicious.
