Ealing Report it APP finally here

The Long awaited Ealing Council report it app is finally here. Easy to use, lets hope the contractors can cope with the new system.

There was a dozen or so black bags plus a bunch of other loose household rubbish dumped at the top of my street on Saturday so I reported it via the app. Today the black bags are gone but all the other rubbish is still there. The app merely reports the status as 'unknown' - not especially helpful as I can't tell if anyone's even read my report let alone actioned it.

The way to ensure the Council does not spend money is to install systems that obstruct the ordinary public in accessing services.

Lee, without trying to dispute what you are saying, is this what the council gives as its goals in the marketing blurb surrounding this, or have you actually submitted a complaint and had it dealt to conclusion within the subsequent 24 hours? On my first encountered attempt it took two days (actually two nights so three days in all) to get some fly-tipped stuff removed from a local shopping street.I would be very interested in hearing what other people are finding with this process (forget the GUI, Graphical User Interface), it may LOOK great what is going on in the engine room itself?

The same time frame that it would take to submit the form online through the council website, the collectors usually respond within 24-48hrs.

Under the previous Chief Executives of Ealing Council I would have suggested ringing his department as a last resort, however, the ever-so-caring Mr Paul Najsarek can only (I repeat only) be contacted by e-mail (as I learned a few weeks ago) and not by phone. The topic of how to interact with the council if you are not computer literate (and possibly infirm) was brought up at a Northfield Ward Forum "Question the Chief Exec" recently. He mumbled some platitudes about looking or working on such things, so I suggest an e-mail to him asking him how he is getting on with this on a regular basis.e-mail: najsarekp@ealing.gov.uk

The APP does work well, granted not for those who don't have a smart phone. You can still report street defects/litter/fly tipping via TfL web pages which gets passed to Ealing Council. I am guessing the APP populates the report fields automatically and passes the details directly to the responsible team and cuts out the middle layer (cost saving??). I do get updates on when the job is complete albeit not all the time.

No tablet either.  It needs to acknowledge any report.When I fell over a rocking paving stone in Oxford the pancake man had seen two people fall there.  I saw another.The shop outside which the damaged paving stones were were rather non-plussed when I went in and told them that I had fallen outside their shop and suggested that they report the defective paving stones to the Council and suggested they use www.fixmystreet.com to do so as it was a danger to other customers or prospective customers of theirs. They use that system in Oxford and have had it adjusted to suit the Council.Why are shopkeepers so lax in reporting defective pavements outside their premises?  If someone falls over they are likely to do exactly as I did and go into the shop - for an ambulance or patching up etc.  It was probably the services and building works to their premises which caused the loose paving stones. Who is it who isn't getting value for money by getting the job done properly?I thought it was somewhere in the building contract or building control that any damage to the pavement should be made good.

We used to be able to use www.fixmystreet.com which worked very well but the Council chose not to continue to accept and relay the messages which they could have done.  I would like to see whether we can see online where the problems are so that we can see whether anyone else has reported a problem - and can see whether there is a serial problem at any particular location.It seemed that www.fixmystreet.com was too in your face for the Council.  Isn't that so?Please prove this is a better system but it won't work for me with no smartphone.  I'll probably just sue now if and when I fall over any dangerous paving stones or poor pavement fixes.  Flexibility is the key not control.

If the council cannot afford to fix the problems then, please, why is it spending money on a smartphone app? As Philippa points out not everyone has a smartphone. Why can't the council do something sensible like having an e-mail address or a telephone numner for texts that basic reporting information could be sent to?The borough is strewn with fly-tipped litter, and the roads and pavements and drains are in a terrible state. The council's highways contractor is a pretty sorry operation cutting corners where possible and sometimes not even using temporary traffic lights when it should.Our MPs have disappeared up the great oozlum bird that is the Brexit Remain effort, and so seemingly have many of our councillors. I am going to take great pleasure in voting all of these people out in the next local and general elections.Shame on you all - you have failed to fulfil your roles in looking after Ealing and its inhabitants.

And what about those who do not have a smartphone?I hear there is a Nokia phone going to go back into production. Smartphones don't suit everyone.
