Denis, I'm afraid that, like so many people, you don't understand how Food Banks work.Food Banks provide food for people in times of crisis. This is often when those entitled to benefits have had payment delayed or have been 'sanctioned' (i.e. have had benefits withdrawn for various reasons). Anyone presenting at a Food Bank has to be referred there for help and cannot claim food aid more than 3 times in a 6 month period. Referrals come from social workers, Job Centres, doctors, charities, etc. Detailed records are kept to ensure that these conditions are not circumvented. This means that you cannot just 'rock up' to a Food Bank and expect to receive free food without proof of need. There are 5 Food Banks operating in the Ealing area - in Acton, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt and Southall. If you want to see for yourself how they operate, you can turn up to any of them for a cup of tea and a chat and find out the real story, rather than indulging your prejudices on the basis of ignorance. Just Google 'Ealing Foodbank' for details of venues and times.
