I Daniel Blake
Your short piece entitled, "Protest at West Ealing Job Centre over Benefit Sanctions" was excellent. Benefits and the poor aren't popular or sexy topics. I was part of that protest group attempting to raise awareness of the Ken Loach film "I Daniel Blake". This is a must see film for everyone of voting age. A chap with his shoulder in a truss came up and asked me what we were doing. He hadn't heard of the film but he knew of Cathy come Home and Ken Loach. I briefly explained the unfairness of the benefit system and the sanctions that it applied given that Daniel was deemed by his medic to be unfit for work (heart problem). He was treated so badly that he felt in necessary to sell his furniture etc and gradually retreated from society. The chap with the shoulder stopped me ther. He said," If it hadn't been for my four lovely daughters I would have been Daniel Blake." A very sobering conversation... and spot on Ken Loach.
