What Ealing should be -- but isn't

Just back from a visit to Melbourne, Australia. Streets notable for being litter free, the wheelie bins a more sensible size with weekly collections, and no potholes in the road. Meanwhile, Ealing Borough increasingly looks like a bottom-ranking third world country.

How often is it supposed to be now?  Every five weeks was it?  I wish they'd take away the green bags of street cleaning which sit here for days or maybe weeks after being filled.

I see Windsor Road W5 being given its first proper clean for many weeks. Now, @EalingCouncil and @ameyplc how about all the other streets that are overdue for a clean!

Agreed. It is disgraceful the way members of the public chuck litter in the streets, but if the streets were cleaned more often, the problem would be reduced. Litter attracts litter.

For our road, as much of the (food) littering occurs at night, prosecutions wouldn't be viable.If Ealing would stop approving cheap fast food "restaurants" in our area, it could help.

On Windsor Road we suffer from our proximity to the Uxbridge Road fast food outlets. People just drop their Lucozade bottles, beer cans and boxes of unfinished chicken on the pavement-or sometimes throw them into our front gardens.In the past seven days I also noticed something else. On two separate occasions I saw people eating in their cars whilst parked here. After they leave, loads of empty food containers were left behind. One looked like he (and they were both men) had cleaned out a week's load of takeaways. Neither car was from here.We really need to have our street cleaned more than once a week.

The state of Ealing streets gets worse. Just been to Ealing Broadway along Windsor Road W5. What a disgrace. Litter everywhere. It must be many weeks since contractors Amey swept this street. Does Ealing Council care? It doesn't appear so.

Barnes Bridge is probably a conservation area, which may be why there are no wheelie bins, that and the Richmond-upon-Thames council aren't wheelie bin stalwart's.

Just back from The Bulls Head in Barnes (well a couple of evenings ago) - notable for no enormous wheelie bins blighting the frontages on that road.

I travelled several hundred miles around most of Melbourne and surrounding districts and potholes and litter were a rarity. I'm not suggesting that Ealing can be truly equated with the more impoverished third world countries -- it's just that Ealing is beginning to look like one!

I suspect that the citizens of bottom rank third world countries like Yemen and Somalia, with Gross National Income per head of less than $1,000 per annum, have more pressing concerns to worry about than than wheelie bins and potholes.

Not sure where you were in Melbourne but can assure you there are plenty of potholes both in roads and footpaths in the suburbs particularly out west which I know best.
