South Ealing Dosa

Does anyone know if this new place is open and ,if it is, have you tried it?Love South Indian food.  Great addition to the area.

George, you seem to know a lot more than the average local resident. just concerned some of your critical comments may not be 100% accurate, like who owns what and is sub-letting to who.I pref Nadia's half full, rather than half empty stance.

Oh dear Colin. I would love to do business with you selling you things. The other small business "the Sri's" have in S.E. is the veg shop. When the entire world is selling walnuts at £4.99 they are selling them at £5.99. Regulars at Leons got a real glipse of what the proprietor and staff thought of them in the last couple of weeks before Mr Belhaj did his deal to 'the Sri's'. This is good local intelligence, so if all you are concerned about is the 'paint job' drive the car off the lot. Real locals who use the area during the day get to know the businesses and the people running them and are not just taken in by the paint.South Ealing has got some real problems which is why so few of us locals buy or go out there. From the coke-heads hanging outside Roddys to the overpriced coffee in the area, to the Wickes with the bent timber.

Went there this eveningDecor -- mmmmmm, not nightime styley but passableService -- not professional but VERY friendly and perfectly passableFood -- spot on, really nice, good portions and very reasonable. The warning is based on the people who are involved in it. The intermedairy landlord,and Dosa launch manager, Abdullah Belhaj and the last days of the rude and bacon-free breakfasts that was Leon which he owned, the over-priced and rather grubby South Ealing vegetable shop that leaves it packing crates on the pavement at night which owns the Dosa itself. These people have all been involved in that area for a long time and have not helped. People tend to stay true to character.

The question that was asked it is good food to which one review was positive.The negative review was more about the area and application for license. Agree that restaurants need to be considerate to their neighbours but surely unfair to make a judgement on a new place based on Sam's and Roddy's?Do they not have a hygiene rating as they haven't yet been inspected? Rather than its unhygienic?Would be interested to hear reviews from others on food / ambience etc as I enjoy South Indian food too.

That's more to do with the failings of the local authority and the freeholders of the sites. South Ealing Road is alive with vermin very late at night. Especially in the vicinity of Airedale Road and Temple road but can even be seen scuttling along near the station and Popes lane.I seldom see this anywhere else, but then I may not be coming home elsewhere at that sort of time.But if planning and building control and licensing bodies were stricter and enforced better, then compliance by businesses and applicants would be good all round. Eateries and outlets that can be trusted with hygiene, residents that do not get aggrieved and blighted and public health kept to the highest standards and minimum risk.There are too many loopholes from inadequately insured builders to unreliable landlords and unscrupulous business people. All cutting corners but all know how to dodge the regulations.

I have not tried the new Dosa in South Ealing yet, was waiting for some other reviews from people. I don't know what hours it would be able to open to. I think there used to be another Asian restaurant (where the betting shop is, well one of the many betting shops on the Sth Ealing Rd!) which also had a licence for alcohol, but probably did not open too late.  However, following on from George's comment, the long opening hours of Sam's Chicken shop is another contributor to the litter, noise and late night and early morning chaos of the South Ealing rd which can become a very unpleasant place in the early hours of the morning, particularly at weekends. Activity there can go on to about 3am at least, even when Sam's has closed people still finish off burgers etc

thanks for this info.  South Ealing Road has detoriated so much in the last few years, sadly.  Many years ago it was much more attractive than neighbouring Northfields Avenue.  But that most certainly istnt the case now

The South Ealing Dosa is the replacement of the Leon cafe which went bust as it got so unpleasant to its customers (and stopped serving bacon in its breakfasts). The proprietor of failedLeon, Abdullah Belhaj, is renting the shop out to the owners of the somewhat grubby fruit and veg shop a couple of shops up the road. The Dosa has no hygiene rating and the people living in the flats above it are fighting tooth and nail to stop it from getting either an alcohol or a club licence both of which have been applied for fearing for further deterioration in the area and being not able to sleep with the dreadful 24 hour shop and the appalling Roddys Bar just down the road which have gained a dreadful reputation in the past couple of years. A large and illegal OSB shed had been built out at the back to extend the premises covering what used to be the garden.

i've tried it - good Dosa Masala , with a kick if you ask for the spicy one!nice coconut chutney and sauce with it. lots of interesting things to try on the menu!No LIcence yet, but pending. First tried to go last saturday but full, so looks like a good addition to the area.
