The old Polish deli is now a Starbucks

You know the place that was opposite Ealing Broadway? There since 1965 I think they said. I walked past there last night and the shop fitters are turning it and the site next door into a Starbucks.Anyone interested in starting a revolution?

(BTW, every time I walk past he starbucks sign in the middle of the pavement I pick it up and dump it back in their shop, the ONLY reason I'd ever go in a Starbucks!)

Hmmm. I'm going to do cafe Zee and Electric coffee company tomorrow and compare...Apparently it's quite a lot about how long it's been since the beans were roasted. Electric coffee company doesn't roast its own, get's them from a place in south london I think.

Personally I think a café is better for that location just opposite the station. Maybe Ealing B station just needs some high quality independent cafes – Café Zee looks great, Cinnamon on Pitshanger is quite good. I would rather something like that. I wonder if rents are set very high in those locations making them viable only for chains, not ideal but I suppose the council can earn some money from the corporates that way.The Terrace gardens in Richmond has a brilliant café with a Lebanese/middle eastern theme but all sorts of other things as well, mostly homemade - Ealing needs places like this. Ditto the garden centre near Ravenscourt Park tube station small menu, reasonably priced and mostly homemade. Generally I have been a bit disappointed by restaurants/cafes since moving to Ealing. I did notice a new Turkish restaurant - has anyone been there?

I absolutely agree - brilliant coffee and the staff are really friendly. They also do a fantastic bacon sandwich!

The coffee revolution has started already and I've just caught on! Right under my nose is the ideal place. You want independent? You got it. Cafe Zee. There's currently only one in the world. They roast their beans in a huge machine you can stare at in the corner of the shop while you sit in comfort drinking the stuff. And it's delicious - I bought a bag of the beans to take home. Plus their cakes and wraps are superb and the staff are lovely! Forget Stalebucks and phoney Tesco owned Harris + Hoole .. Cafe Zee is right in the centre of the Broadway opposite Christ the Saviour church and next to Specsavers. When I'm not at the friends cafe in Boston Manor park I will be there.

Not an error. All branches of Pret a manger sell a filter coffee for £1 and have done so for a long time.

Try Pret on the broadway. Decent filter coffee with or without milk for £1.

Thank you Philip Coe and Alan Anderson for acknowledging the cafe in Boston Manor Park (which is incidentally closed until 1st week of February whilst we volunteers take a break).  Note to self, really must keep thoughts to self otherwise I might offend!  We love our community and are proud to be able to offer inexpensive refreshments (even if the cappuccino is powdered - my colleague can make the machine noises and we do sell filter coffee) and still put profits back into improving the park.  Happy New Year

How much do they buy?  I was wondering just the other day how it works running a small cafe when people often want to sit in them for hours working on their laptops. What is the etiquette?  (Not that many nowadays give a damn.)

People should vote with their feet. Starbucks coffee is appalling anyway. Why do people buy it? Quite beyond me.

..and who said they could put their enormous metal shop sign bang in the middle of the pavement on one of the busiest corners in Ealing?!It's already chaos there with people rushing for buses, waiting for pick ups and stumbling out of the Shanakee.

As if we need another mother and baby coffee shop..I suppose it's replacing the closed one on the Station Parade.Won't be permanent as that block will eventually be redeveloped.

Now this I will agree with you about. I liked the old Polish delicatessen and there are definitely way too many coffee shops in Ealing. And they charge ridiculous prices for coffee.

I do like that place. Funnily enough the last time I was in there the lady told me off for sniffing - I was getting a cold. That's a service you don't get from these corporate chains.

Had a cappucino from the little cafe in Boston Manor Park the other morning.  £1 a takeaway mug.  OK not filter but powdered out of the jar.  But it was hot and had caffeine in it - what more could you want?

Not the pub as well, sacrilege? That was formerly Shannockys ( or something),a lively but friendly Irish bar.How many beep coffee shops do we need. I hate the stuff
