I don't know if anyone else has noticed but what looks like one of those Asian Hornet's nest is high up in a Silver Birch tree at the Southern end of Walpole Park.

Sarah,You certainty opened up a large hornets nest with this subject? John.

You succeeded, it made a nice change from all the DRONING going on.

I was just trying to get a good buzz going.

Thanks for the kind words Philippa - I read but try to avoid stickng my oar in nowadays, but couldn't resist this little one during a rare and temporary reduction in work presure from desperate to merely extreme.Re the street matters, good another little win in the perennial war of attrition with relentless Council recalcitrance and even hostility against the punters - or aganst the ones that have the temerity to get ideas about their station - South Ealing or otherwise.

Philippa,Has the venting been investigated in case its MethaneGas-CH4,Explosive and flammable? regards John.
Dr John Stolworthy D.Sc ● 3113d
- a view every despot and ruling clique in history would applaud. While not wishing to over-elevate the importance of the particular cyclsts vs peds issue, every freedom you and I enjoy results from past law- and rule-breaking.
Hey Chris - good to see you dropping by.I'm sure that there should be some joke about stepping into a hornet's nest! (I hope someone who sees it reports in case it is an Asian hornet's nest.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/18/deadly-asian-hornets-that-devour-bees-and-can-kill-humans-arrive/ )That dangerous kerb between the pavement and the petrol station on S Ealing Road has gone (hurray) - but there are manhole covers up venting gas on the other side of the road again... making it difficult to walk to the tube station...

Chris,A wise person abides,a fool ignores it,John.
I wouldn't argue otherwise, and I aren't arguing for either side on this issue - but would just remind that 'Laws and rules are made for the instruction of fools and for the guidance of the wise'.
Chris,Cycling on the pavement is an offence,Town Police Clauses Act,and Highways Act,regards John.
Dying breed?? - well if you ever get to my age you may comne to realise humour is an essential aid to survival and an essental palliative aganst life's stresses and pressures - even in situations far more serious than this topic.
Well, while not wanting this thread to turn into yet another cyclst vs peds one (life's quote a few orders of magnitude too short and we don't want to un-cage yet again the Self-Righteous Brothers (and Sisters) on either side), let me just say there is an argument (albeit not a clear-cut one) that legitimising cycle use of pavements (or footways as us engineers calls them) can encourage cyclists to proceed less cautiously and considerately than when they know they're trespassing - although the terminally thick-skinned and selfish will always be with us - or rather against us.There are, however, few if any arguments in favour of over-long sentences like the above.
Well said,Joanna, and yes Chris I have a sense of humor in the right place, not in serious subjects as this,John, and for the record I am English,a dying breed? I fear.
There is a difference between dual-use pedestrian/cyclist pavements and pedestrian-pavements. Something that the police in Ealing have problems with as they seem to be incapable of stopping cyclists who endange perdestrians on pedestrian-only pavements.
Indeed - though have to confess I'm currently tasked with designing and pursuing a couple of cyclist-on-the-pavement schemes, albeit in deep rural territory well outside London.
You forgot to mention the cyclist on the pavement and the elephant in the room.
Dr John, are you by any chance North American? - no sense of humour
I've also seen a Pandora's box and a can of worms that the Council needs to deal with - oh, and a cat among the pigeons.
Bob,I Think we will treat your remark with the contemt it deserves,
No need to be so waspish.
Joanna, hopefully some has had the sense to inform them,we do not want a plethora of these around Ealing, regards John.
Dr John Stolworthy D.Sc ● 3114d
I hope that the council enacts a SHARP response to this!
Joanna Corbett ● 3114d
Sounds like there's a sting in the tail.
Bob Little ● 3114d
Joanna,That is a stupid and silly question to what can be a very serious situation,I would have thought a person with some intelligence knew better!!!!!!!!
The question is: are these hornets economic migrants, or are they refugees?
REPORT THIS TO COUNCIL BY WAY OF URGENCY!!!!!!
Dr John Stolworthy D.Sc ● 3115d
There are also wasps in the gazebo near the playground in Walpole Park.
