My understanding is that LB Ealing community schools no longer have pre-ordained catchment areas, either at primary or secondary level.I *think* this also applies to "own admissions authority high schools".This has been the case for 5+ years in the case of secondary schools and a year or so for primaries. The criteria used are as per the link in Fred's post and the vast majority of kids will be assessed on how close they live to the school. The council software totally ignores "real" travel times and simply measures the distance from a child's address in a straight line / as the crow flies to a point within the school's premises. To help you decide where you might have a chance of getting in, these prospectuses show "The distance & criterion of the last person to be offered a place for Sept 2016 as at the 18 April 2016 after the first round of offers." (This is taken from the "Primary_School_Prospectus_2017.pdf", pages 10 & 11.)Prospectuses can be found here:Ealing school prospectusesSome schools, such as William Perkins C of E High School, get more and more popular each year and as the number of applicants increases, the distance one needs to be from the school decreases.
