Campaign for Plastic Bottles to have a Returnable Deposit

http://messageinabottle.org.uk/We used to have bottles like these and we could return to them.Other countries have them. It puts a value on the bottle which encourages people to dispose of them more carefully.

The idea of putting a return value on some plastic bottles sounds good to me.  I did a double take over the message in a bottle web address as I know of another scheme to leave contact details, medical details and any personal instructions in a bottle in the fridge. This is also called message in a bottle.

There used to be returnable glass bottles, now re-cycling is to smash the glass and waste heat to reform bottles, Did the LBE £13,000 'Christmas tree' ever get re-cycled??

Crikey Albertina you put my efforts to shame!  You have thought about it.  I agree that there will be sadly be some people that are slobs and will still dump BUT it gives an incentive to many  to deal with them correctly and to others to collect what the slobs dump and deal with them in a better way than them being landfilled because they are in mixed waste. The bottles that is - the slobs - well that question is still up for discussion.

When I asked the CEO of a drinks retailer about deposits and returns he rejected it immediately because it would double their handling costs. I asked a small local business the same thing and they were positive about it.
