Gatwick Expansion

Sadiq Khan and 11 London Councils are calling on the Government to expand Gatwick Airport.Curiously Ealing Council isn't one of them.Presumably they favour Heathrow expansion despite the misery it would cause the borough in terms of noise,traffic congestion and air pollution.

Local MP Hasn't bothered talking to his constituents about it. And what does an Environment advisor who pontificates about local pollution have to say?Nothing about allowing City airport to expand.Nothing about the pollution caused by aircraft on take off and landing approaches concentrated over a dense and overpopulated region.Nothing said that the same person is also the Leader of a Borough most afflicted by aircraft pollution.Nothing said about pollution caused by hi rise building and vortices.All of which put road pollution well down the list and Heathrow expansion will push that back up as well.Funny that.

Today in West Ealing the planes overhead are relentless and loud. I cannot imagine how bad things will get if a third runway goes ahead at Heathrow, we will all need triple glazing and air conditioning in summer so that windows can be kept sealed at all times. This would be the worst decision possible for residents in this densely populated area. The argument that we 'need the jobs' is misguided, West London has more than its fair share of jobs, investment, transport links etc. However, it is often poorer in terms of the decline of close communities and in terms of air and noise pollution. Anyway, as others have pointed out it would be foolish to believe in these promises, the rationale for Heathrow expansion seems to me to be driven by corporate profiteering and if it goes ahead we will look back on it like other recent fiascos and wonder how they got away with it.

Of course the M23 would have to be widened, and perhaps the M25 near the M23

Virendra Sharma having originally opposed Heathrow expansion has now changed his mind.He has put an article in City am extolling the virtues of a third runway.No mention of its consequences for many of his constituents in terms of increased noise,traffic congestion and air pollution.No thought is given to the thousands of people who would be kicked off their land to make way for it.He has repeated his remarks on Twitter if you want to read it.

This is a strange one as Heathrow have always broken promises. Gatwick getting an extra runway is the most logical solution. An issue for these airports are the onward transport links. Heathrow fails on the key environmental issues. But also the City airport is expanding. Having used that a few times i quite like it. no doubt Northolt could be used more?

Don't kid yourself.There won't be many jobs because of automation.Don't believe all of Heathow's propaganda

Presumably they think we will need the jobs Heathrow provides.
