Nextdoor Website

Has anyone else received a note (by post, not just pushed through the door) with an invitation to join a neighbourhood website called "Nextdoor"? I was a bit dubious but thought it wouldn't hurt to try (I Googled "Nextdoor website" first and it seemed bona fide), so entered my email address and postcode, and was surprised to be told "your neighbourhood is Bakers Arms". Funny, I thought, that's miles away in East London - Walthamstow or thereabouts. Not Northfields, anyway!  At which point I came off the site and don't intend to try it again. The note was from one Sarah Richings in Camborne Avenue, supposedly.Does anyone know any more about this? Or about Ms.Richings?

Neighbours in Haven Green have also received these invitations by card with a personalised code. Quite a few have signed up and the instigator is a guy across the road from me.The initiative is American but seems to being rolled out here. It remains to be seen whether the forum is useful but I too did wonder who was making money - someone is always making money!

I think that you will find that the money is the personal details that they collect on you that they sell on when you forget to tick the "No further marketing" box. Also in advertising - either on paper or by e-mail.

Well, someone has presumably paid for the stamp that was on the envelope posted to me (and "Sarah Richards" was pre-printed on the top left corner). I'm relieved that the address line doesn't include my name (just says "Northfields Neighbour"). Surely I'm not the only person in my street who's had the dubious honour of receiving this missive? Why me? And why did the Nextdoor site get my location so wrong?

I received a letter inviting me to Streetlife. There must be some profit in these sites?
