27th Ealing Beer Festival

Just a reminder the Ealing Beer Festival is now on in Walpole Park (6pm on Saturday )

Not enough seating at the Jazz Festival either.  With the state of pavements now disabling people it gets harder to sit on a picnic blanket and dragging a picnic chair around can be hard work.

Well said and that sums it up Nadia. Very reasonable prices and a good time had by all. Many London pubs now £4 a pint at the festival the average £3.Staffed by volunteer who give their time freely. The gate fee £3(camra members)or £5 non member not excessive when taking into account the tents,toilets,infrastructure required. Get a sandwich in some coffee bas would cost £5. Be positive folks and no moaners.

Also worth factoring the cost of the beer - £3 to £3.60 a pint. That's pretty good value i think.

It's a fantastic local event that's got bigger every year thanks to its popularity.The entrance fee is to cover the costs as some other posters have already commented on.Shame we can't all see the glass half full rather than empty and focus on what a great event it is rather than moan about the costs. Its so popular that they often run out of beer so if you have an issue with it or have something to moan about stay at home -  more beer for those excited about the event.

Essentially it's £5 to get into an event that only happens once a year. £3 Glass fee is refundable if you return the glass. As it has already been eluded to it's staffed by volunteers, someone has to pay for those marquees/fencing/portaloos/council fees/furniture/advertising etc so the £5 entrance fee is totally justified in my opinion. I can pop into any pub in Ealing every day of the week for a cheeky Pint but the Beer Festival which serves a vast array of beverages I can't. As for attracting more people..... it's already very popular so I'm sure they'll cope.

I thought it was £5 entrance fee plus £3 for the glass. I keep my glass so it is a fair whack before you have a drink. I'm not a volume drinker so I wouldn't mind paying more per my half pint to cover the costs. It would attract more people who are not big drinkers to pop in for a cheeky half or two without the initial outlay.Alas, my CAMRA membership lapsed a long time ago.

As it is staffed by volunteers, the fee pays the large costs for marquees, lighting and council licence, the £3 seems reasonable.

Another event where you have to pay to enter before buying a drink or food. It was the same at the Food/music event on The Common at the weekend. It could be justified if the entry fee was returned when you purchase food or drink.
